Britain’s favourite birdwatch er Bill Oddie will be making a flying visit to the Ribble Yal- ley this autumn when Clithe roe venue The Grand hosts an evening with the popular broadcaster on October 15th. Oddie has built a reputa
tion as one of Britain’s most respected ornitholigists and conservationists and will also be taking a colourful look back at his career in television as both an actor and presenter. Throughout the 1970s and
’80s, Oddie was best known to television viewers as one- third of the smash hit comedy series The Goodies, also fea- turingTim Brooke Taylor and Graeme Garden. His many wildlife pro
grammes made him a house hold name, though, and have included Springwatch/Au- tumnwatch, Wild in Your Gar den and Bill Oddie Goes Wild. In the recent BBC series o f ' Who Do You Think You Are?,
Oddie traced some of his fam ily roots to the Ribble Val ley villages of Chatburn and Grindleton. . “I have a lot of family roots
in Lancashire,'so I’m looking forward to visiting Clitheroe and seeing the Grand,” said Oddie. “Lancashire is an area of the country I’ve always en joyed visiting.” .

. to the meal and to ensure that standards are being main tained. His old team is under no illusions of what is expect- edfromthem!
It was a fine achievement by Gary and Val to get the venture off the ground in October 2011. Not only are the customers grateful but also the kitchen staff, who get great pleasure from seeing elderly people enjoying ahot three-course meal each week and using Pendle Club as a location for a social activity. Val, despite her busy role as Mayor for the coming munici pal year, is continuing her work front ofhouseandalso con tinues to be the person at the focal point of the club. It might be a hackneyed expression but, in Gary’s case, it is true... he is a legend in his own lunchtime.
