Hot prospect Sophie Lamb is looking to feed from the inspi- rationand memory ofher late

grandad ahead of the 2015 golf season.

The 16-year-old Clitheroe sensation battled through

<j[Mie h e ar tach e o f losing her ‘number one fan’, Lars Bjorkqvist, to find success at

9 . the Italian Ladies’Champion ships at Castel Gandolfo near Rome, where she finished

national call-up to play in the French Under 21 Junior Cham pionships at Saint Cloud Golf Club.beforemakinghistoryby retaining the prestigious Fair- haven Trophy in May. Sophie, who also helped

England defend their title at the Home Championships in Ireland, has once again been selected for the England Girls Under 18 squad for the new term, and recently experi enced an intensive five days of coaching at Woodhall Spa

in Lincolnshire - the home of England Amateur Golf. The teenager, who is the

lowest handicapped player in the squad after finishing the campaign on +2.1, will begin

the newyear across the Atlan tic with the Orange Blossom

Tour in Florida. There she will take on

some of the world’s best players, before moving on to the South Atlantic Wom en’s Championships and the Jones Doherty Women’s Championships. “Sophie has had an upset

ting summer due to the sud den death o fh e r grandad,” said her dad, Phil.

“It was a massive shock. “I had to withdraw her from three big events because

she wasn’t in the right frame ofmind. “She told us she felt guilty

playing golf when she knew howher gran, Inga, was so sad and lonely and had not seen

her all summer because of hergolf. “So after the Home Cham

pionships, Sophie went over to Sweden for to days to stay

withhergran. “She came back much'

more settled and has start ed to play really well again,

although the season is now over.” He added: “Her grandad

was a yery cool guy and they spoke at length every week in

'Swedish - because Sophie is fluent in the language. “He was not agolfer but he

gave her some great advice. “HewassoproudofSophie

and was convinced she would make her career in golf at the top level.” •
