Britains \ / \ DNA The Greatest Gift

All of us on these islands are immigrants, descendants both of pioneers who repopulated the North after the end of the last ice age and also much more recent arrivals.

Chromo2 is the world’s most sophisticated deep ancestry DNA test It can unlock the secrets of your past and trace fatherlines and motherlines back into the darkness of prehistory, discover the DNA of the Ice Age Refuges and the First Farmers and much else. Looking at more recent ancestry, it can tell you how British you are or whether or not you carry genes from the Mediterranean, the Baltic, Eastern Europe or much further afield. It can even tell you if you are a carrier of the red hair gene variant. And with our new Blue Eyes test, you can discover your eye colour genotype. In other words BritainsDNA can answer an age*old question- it can tell you where you come from.

Fun and fitness for over-50s

Age UK Lancashire provides opportunities across East Lancashire -including here in the Ribble Valley - for people aged 50-plus to join in a varie ty of physical activity sessions to help them keep active and involved in their community. “Many older people can

be isolated, particularly over winter when the days can be wet and dark early,” said Linda Salazar, services co-ordinator

for Age UK Lancashire in the Ribble Valley. “We would urge people to

contact us to find out what activities and groups are avail able in their area. “In Langho, for exam

ple, we hold a social group on a Tuesday afternoon at St Mary’s Church Hall. This includes gentle exercise, a quiz and a chat. We hold a sim ilar event at the Pendle Club

in Clitheroe on Wednesday afternoon.

“There is also tai chi, yoga

and keep fit available in oth er locations. The emphasis is on fun and friendship, but it’s a chance to keep thejoints working and the body moving without overdoing it." For more information,

call 0300 3031234 or 01200 453073. or visit the website www.ageuklancs.org.uk
