Bonfire was a flamin’good night out !
: “Top” was the word used to describe thisyear’s Clitheroe Community Bonfire by Gold en Ticket winner 13-year- old Charlotte Williams, who helped light the six metre high blaze. This year’s event was
" blessed with dry weather, but the wind did pick up in die evening meaning the fire works had to be lit slightly earlier than planned. Nevertheless, a large
crowd enjoyed the annu al spectacular which once again passed without inci dent, thanks to meticulous planning and the hard work of a 65-strong team of vol unteers led by new bonfire chairman Andy Belcham.

A scary WWII find for house builders Sophie inspired by her ‘No.i fan’
Hot prospect Sophie Lamb is looking to feed from the inspiration and memory of her late grandad ahead of the 2015 golf season. The 16-year-old ClitHeroe sensation battled through the heartache of losing her “number one fan”, Lars Bjorkqvist, to find success at the Italian Ladies’ Championships at Castel Gan- dolfo near Rome, where she finished 12th in March this year. She also earned an international call-up to play in the French Under 21 Junior Championships.

MP queries the cost of faith school
bus travel Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans is continuing to question Government education bosses about the costs faced by parents of children who attend faith schools. Mr Evans contacted
Schools Minister David Laws after his question in the House of Commons to the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan. •Mr Evans asked what
steps the Department for Education was taking to ensure that parents wish ing to send their children to faith schools were not financially penalised. Mr Evans said: “Par
ents with youngsters who happen to live in Clithe roe and want to send them to a Catholic school have to pass a non-faith based . comprehensive on the way. “Therefore, thelocal au
lb '
thority will not give them any assistance whatsoever with school transport. This is a hideous form of discrimination that ends up giving parents a huge bill at the end of the year.” In response Nicky Mor
gan said: “Although local authorities must have re gard to parents’ wishes to have their children educat ed in a school based on re ligion or belief, there is no statutory duty to require • them to provide free trans-
’ port to that school) “I understand the frus
tration of many parents and will perhaps look at this again."
