ed to use the Castle Keep as the backdrop to the firework display and the results were

'stunning. Every window in the town must have afforded an excellent view, but none as good as the castle field,” said bonfire committee chairman Andy Belcham. Appetites were appeased

by a hog roast and a pancake stall that seemed to have a queue at least 20 metres long all evening. The flashing toys were a sell out adding colour and ensuring the event went ahead safely with no sparklers allowed on the field. Thisyear’s event was bless ed with dry weather, but the

wind did pick up in the evening meaning the fire works had to be lit slightly earlierthan planned. Read future articles in

the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times for details of how much the two chosen charities - North West Air Ambulance and Life Educa tion - will benefit from the ticket sale proceeds. The firework display

was kindly sponsored by several local businesses and without their gener- ' ous support proceeds from the event would be greatly reduced. The local compa nies which sponsored the event were: Hanson Cement Group, Dugdale Nutrition, The Paper Cup Company,

the Town Mayor’s Charity Fund, Subway, Brian Price, Schofield and Pickup, Trutex Ltd, Miller Homes and Clithe roe Town Council. Ribble Val ley Borough Council not only sponsored the event, but also allowed the use of the castle field and assisted with the ad ministration. “A huge thank you to you

all,” said Andy Belcham on be half of the committee. Thanks were also ex

pressed to the 60 plus vol unteers and stewards from local service organisations who helped with the event. These included volunteers from Clitheroe Lions, Clithe roe Round Table, Pendle View Rotary Club, Clitheroe Rotary Club and Ribblesdale Rotary Club.Thebonfirecommittee. | is madeup ofrepresentatives from each organisation and

Clitheroe Town Mayor Val Cooper was called upon to carry out the difficult job of judging the guys made by local primary schools and Brownie groups. After much deliberation,

the guy that won the top seat right on the pinnacle of the bonfire was the one made by Pendle Primary School, who won the first prize of £100. The second prize of £75

went to Brookside Primary School and the third prize of £50 to the Brownie group in Langho.
