I want to thank my family for getting friends together and giving me a wonderful
100th Birthday Party which was a huge success. Also the Mayor and Mayoress Michael Ranson and his wife Janette for coming with beautiful flowers and happily joining in, for all the numerous lovely cards and gifts and donations recieved.
I would also like to thank the bridge players at
Pendle Club and Clitheroe Golf Club for cards, gifts and suprises, and for the help they have given me for so many years. I got a bigger suprise when I saw the advertiser this week. I
am so lucky that so many have given so much to give me, such a marvelous, enjoyable and memorable time. A fantastic sum of £740 was donated to North West Ambulance.

Quest to find stars of the Ribble Valley
Ribble Valley residents still have time to nominate their sporting heroes and commu nity champions for the 2014 Ribble Valley Sports and Com munity Awards. Nominations, which will

for Rising Star, Lifetime Achievement and Communi ty Engagement. Peter Fletcher, the bor
ough council’s sports devel opment officer, said: “The awards, presented in August,
are a fantastic opportunity for sports clubs, coaches and vol unteers to get the recognition they deserve for their hard work and commitment. “In order for the awards to
be a success, we rely on clubs, coaches, players, parents, . teachers and friends to nomi nate people who deserve to be recognised for their contribu tion to community sport.” Award winners will repre
sent the Ribble Valley at the Lancashire Sports Awards in October.
Choir and pupils a harmonious success
The Grand Choir wasjoined by singing stars from Ribblesdale High School as they fine tuned their voices at St James Church, Clit heroe, ahead of their end-of-season concert at The Grand on Monday, July 21st.
All the pupils performed brilliantly, with outstanding displays from Laura Dobson,
Anna Smith and Nathan Dewhurst, who im pressed the audience with his own version of “Stars” from “Les Miserables”. Olivia Mason, musical director for the Grand Choir and Ribblesdaleperformers, said: “I am very proud of them. The talent ’
in both groups is amazing. It is always hard doing a pre-performance concert, but both
choirs rose to the occasion with enthusi asm.
“We witnessed a brilliant performance from Nathan, who had never sung before in public.
“St James’s was very kind and gave its dona tion from the evening to The Grand’s Solo mon Project.”
In all, £383 was raised for the Solomon
Project, which helps to feed poor children in Africa.

Talk a mine off information
fo r family history group At Ribble Valley Fam
ily History Society’s June meeting speaker Brenda Hustler talked about “A Journey in Research-Peo ple of Newchurch-in-Pen- dle”. Even those with no ancestors from Newchurch learned a lot about sources of information both on and off the internet. Brenda haddoneso much research into a couple of topics which in the end had common ground, that
her audience was almost “blinded by science”. There will be no meeting in July, as members will be @ visiting the Lancashire Ar chives at Preston, but there will now be a meeting in August, at 7-30 pm on Tues day the 12th at Clitheroe Cricket Club when Jenny Palmer will give a talk ^ about her book “Whipps, Watsons and Bullcocks-A Pendle Family History”. Visitors are welcome.
