Paul Gaskell’s first XI achieved back to back senior league ti tles, and were the standard bearers for the Ribblesdale League across the region, reaching the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup for the second time in the club’s history. . Likewise, the third XI

achieved another league title to add to the Clitheroe trophy

cabinet, complimented by a strong campaign from their own fourth XI, whose mid table finish is a credit to the strength in depth at the club. While the second XI may

consider themselves disap pointed to finish in ninth position, notable individu al performances from their youngsters towards the end of the campaign indicates green shoots of recovery, and the club anticipates a bright future for John Green’s men. The junior section now comprises around 200 boys

and girls from the local com munity, over loo of whom- directly contributed to this year’s success on the cricket field. Indeed, a number of jun

ior sides emerged as winners of their respective divisions, with the Under n s winning both league and cup compe- • titions. ■ Theunderninesandi3sal-

so had excellent campaigns, finishing runners-up within their leagues. Special men tion should go to Clitheroe’s under 15s who won the Lanca

shire knockout cup, the sub sequent regional final and the Ribblesdale League for their age group. The burgeoning girls’ sec

tion also had a notable year, becoming the first girls’ team to enter the Under 15 boys’ sec tion of the Lancashire League, and beating some of the giants of the league in their inaugural campaign. The under 13 girls also had

a season in which much pro gression was made, and the club has now reached a level where there are 12 girls and

boys representing Lancashire

juniors, as well as many more playing for the Ribble Valley and Ribblesdale League. • The club would like to

thank supporters, parents, carers, coaches and players, without whom the club could not continue to serve the com- munity of Clitheroe with such success. The achievements are also a testament to numerous sponsors, to whom Clitheroe are very grateful.

* Theclubnowlookforward to honouring the achieve ments at their presentations.

On roads the 27 year old had triumphed on for the past two years while con testing the British Rally Championship Challenge, Thompson dominated the Group N class of theBTRDA round, setting the pace in the category from the very first stage and ending the event 21 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger. With one round still to

run, that he is obliged to sit outthrough competition rules, Thompson sits atop of the leader board of the BTRDA Production Cup, but is reliant on a non-fin ish from rival Tom Naugh- ton to take the title. Whatever happens,

however, Thompson will look back on the season with a sense of pride.
