paint finishes. With Black Magic pearl ef­ fect paint, you lose a lot of the impact of the black detailing that stands out so well with the Kanba Red finish. Skoda also offers four metallic colours at extra cost - Candy White, Sprint Yellow, Brilliant


Silver and Anthracite Grey. As long as you do not take the motorsports associa­ tions too seriously, the Skoda Fabia Mon­ te Carlo is a tough car to take issue with. It looks great, is practical, well built and very cheap to run. The Monte Carlo package is, in effect,


a styling kit for the Fabia SE. The biggest improvement is the sports seats which help counter the issues caused by body roll and pancake flat seats in the SE version. It is worth taking care with the engine


selection when specifying the Monte Car­ lo. The 105PS petrol engine is a perky unit and both the diesels have something to be said for them, the more powerful of the two being my pick. What price style? At around £15,000,


this range-topping Monte Carlo model still looks strong value.
