MP’s backing for the ‘rural Oscars’

NIGEL Evans, MP for the Rib- ble Valley and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, at tended the Countryside Alli ance Awards at the House of

Lords. Speaking after the reception, Mr

Evans said: “They call these awards the ‘rural Oscars’ and they are a fantastic celebration of the magnif icent farmers, shops and rural busi nesses that we are lucky enough to have throughout the UK. “More often than not the pro

duce sold is produced in neigh bouring communities and these businesses provide the lifeblood of villages and towns across the coun- tiy. “We have a rich rural heritage

that had been allowed to fade. I am delighted, as demonstrated by the fact that this was the sbcth annual awards, that the countryside is go ing from strength to strength and long may that continue.”
