In the Premiere league jubilee
CLITHEROE Concerts Society's Diamond Jubilee 60th season continued with a : highly successful second concert, given by the Erato Piano Trio. Sergei Podobedov (piano), Yuri Kalnits
(violin) and Julia Morneweg (cello) are young but highly experienced musicians who, after gaining glittering awards from the Royal College of Music, have played all over the UK, Europe, USA and the Far East. They are sought after ■ instrumentalists in their own right. Their programme started with Haydn's
Piano Trio in C major and continued with the Trio written by Garrett Shatzer, still
- in his 20s. Julia commented that they get new music sent to them on an almost daily basis, but they felt this piece was well above most others. This performance was the UK
premiere and after studying the music they were so impressed that they have commissioned Garrett to write something especially for them. The audience was clearly in agreement as the trio took several "curtain calls", almost

unknown in the middle of a concert! The composer himself posted on his
blog on June 10th this year: "Great news! The
fabulous.Erato Piano Trio is giving the UK premiere of my Piano trio No.1 at the Clitheroe Concerts Society on November 2, 2011". Julia Morneweg texted Garrett-who lives in San Francisco - immediately after the concert to say the premiere was a success. The Society, through chairman Tony Cooper, has also been in contact, congratulating him and sending the complete programme for the evening.
, The first half concluded with Shostakovich's single-movement Piano
.Trio, written when he was only 17, continuing the theme of youth. It was dedicated to a girl of his own age called Tatyana who he had fallen in love with.' After the interval, Brahms second Piano
Trio, a major piece of music, ended the concert in a satisfying way.

This was clearly one of the society's most
successful concerts in recent years. An • \ audience of 96 was the biggest for some, rime, coming not only from the Ribble Valley, but as far away as Lytham St Andes and Ormskirk. Julia commented that we would not have iiad such an audience for this programme if we were in South East England. We know that the society's website experienced heavy traffic and an astounding 6,004 people looked at the short form of the concert details on Concert Diary. Next month, on December 14th,
the society welcomes the Gallimaufry ’■ Ensemble playing music for a wind quintet. Tickets may be purchased
from Clitheroe Music, the Tourist information Office or. through the society's website (www.
ditheroeconcerts.org) where you can also get detailed information about this concert or join the society, bringing a substantial discount on the cost of individual tickets. KenGeddes.

It’s Mole, Ratty and Toad on stage
‘Wind in the Willows’ comes to The Grand
By Tony Dewhurst
FIRST published in 1908, The Wind in the Willows is a classic of children's literature and Mole, Ratty, Mr Badger and Mr Toad, will be brought to life when Ribcaged Productions premiere their adaptation of the ever-popular Kenneth Grahame narrative at the Grand during Christmas Week. Fresh from their autumn sell-out triumph with
Oliver Twist, Ribcaged's Artistic Director, Owen Phillips, is promising some seasonal surprises as they put the finishing touches to another eagerly awaited production. So why not come and join us in this whirlwind
riverside adventure, and a great seasonal story that will delight children of ail ages. "The Wind in the Willows is a magical story,
and a play that encourages imagination, reading and the story of friendship for young people,"
Wind in/the CWitfows
a play of Kannath Grahama's classic story (£12 Aduttt, £6 W OR5TPM O S«, £30 Family of 4) V S ? , \
said Owen. "It is a wonderful time to be staging it, just
before Christmas and then again in january, because the story itself is a lot about the winter months. "It is a fresh adaptation, and some of the Oliver Twist cast will be in our Wind in the Willows
production." "This is another great challenge for Ribcaged
- it was lovely to see the fantastic reviews and praise we received for Oliver Twist, " added Owen. "Young people are desperate to be involved in
the productions and it is wonderful to see their enthusiasm and talent." He added: "Local boys Rees Parry and Lewis
Reed were exceptional in Oliver Twist, and we've had a fantastic response from the schools again. "We are so excited about the new production because it is going to be vety special." the opening Wind in the Willows production
will be staged at the Grand on Wednesday December 21 st (7-15 p.m.) - with a further two shows easing the audience into 2012. The first, on Friday, January 13th (7-15), will be followed by a special matinee performance the following day _ with a 2-30 p.m. start. Tickets are £12 adults and £6 children. It promises to be a busy 2012 for the Grand
theatre team, with Ribcaged planning a production of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and Educating Rita later in the year.
