shop window in Castle Street, which featured “'Bears on Holi day” as its theme. The bears had

kindly been donated and will be used for fund-raising, at a future date, to continue the volunteers’ efforts to enhance the services the organisation provides for Carers.- • Coun. Yearing visited a music workshop led by Mr Rick Sferuk and arranged in collaboration with the Library Service and Cross Roads Care. Children of all ages with learning difficulties and ad ditional needs were encouraged to use musical instruments, particu larly drums. They participated in singing and actions to the music.

A spokesman for the group said:

“ The children’s faces showed how much they enjoyed the experience and their parents knew they were with skilled carers in a safe envi ronment.' “We also have ‘Just for Fun

Clubs’ for children of eight years and onwards with caring needs, which are held on a Thursday after school during term time in Chip ping Village Hall “Further information can be

A good July walk... but a bit stinky!

ON a July Saturday, with the weather perfect for walking, 15 Clitheroe Ramblers set off from Barley car park in the direction of WeetsHill. The first part of the walk led

past.the Black Moss reservoirs, where the very low level of water in the lower reservoir was the sub

ject of comment. Heading north wards, witli Pendle I-Till to the left, the group approached the north ern summit of Wheathcad Height, which provided a suitable site for a coffee break with lovely views. The next section took the ram

blers over moorland, designated Access land, past Craven Laithe

and a somewhat unsavoury and nose-holding crossing of a field where muck spreading was in progress, onto the A682. Here it was necessary to walk a

short distance along the road, leav ing it at Crag Farm to head north again to gain access over fields to Coal Pit Lane.

•. At this point, concern over

the state of some stiles and foot path signs led to a discussion as to which district we were in and whose responsibility it would be to report these deficiencies. The second climb of the day

then took the group close to the summit of Weets Hill, in time for

a long lunch break, during which a number of peojple made the final ascent to the trig point and were rewarded with spectacular views. After lunch, the route followed

part of the Pendle Way south wards to the delightful valley of Admergill Water, and then past Blacko Foot to take field paths to Roughlee, passing the front of Roughlee Old Hall. The final stretch led westwards

through fields arid then past White Hough along a pleasant track to Barley car park, where the cafe provided much welcome ice creams, smoothies, tea and cof fee.

Race for Life cash boost

WOMEN staff and clients from Calderstones Partnership NHS Trust have raised a large sum of money for Cancer Research wliile getting fit at the same time. A total of 50 clients and staff members of the

Women’s Action Group (WAG) at the Whal- ley-based Trust took part in the five-kilometre Race for Life at .Witton Park, Blackburn; The WAG is made up of lead nurses and 10

women who represent the women who live at Caldersto'ncs. Throughout the year the group held fund-raising events, including a spring fair and good-as-new sale, to raise money to fund entry to the race for the women who live at Cal derstones.

. . A massive £1,231 was raised and the cheque

was presented to Trudy Stammer; Cancer Re search UK’s Race for Life Event Manager, by WAG staff member Anita Sorrell; Trudy.in turn presented the women with certificates and a Race for Life watch.

• ■

• The women greatly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a community charity fund-rais-

'ing event and were all proud to complete the course.-The event was so popular that it is

; hoped the race will become an annual fixture in the women’s calendar.
