bus passengers ONE wonders, occasionally, if our lo- cal councillors and the officers of Ribble
■ Valley Boroguh Council and Lancashire County Council varieties ever get off their rotund rumps and sally forth to the places where ordinary people live, especially those of us who do not have vehicles for which they can claim 40p per mile from us, the council taxpayers. The new buses now being operated by TRANSDEV on the Cl route to and
• from the, neglected area of Low Moor, ' are longer and wider than before. I believe that one of our current county
councillors, who I have observed using public transport on trains, is no longer a residentofthisarea./: V .

. of Clitheroe - at least as far as the politi cians are concerned - he would have ob served that over the last few weeks, there has been considerable inconvenience to bus drivers on this route. This has been due to, at times, 20 white
construction vans being parked in Union Street. ■
Of course, the local constabulary, who
might at least have given advice on safe parking, leave alone giving tickets for ob struction, were nowhere to be seen. The bus drivers, meanwhile, have
coped very well and not one swear word has been heard emanating from their lips. The passengers have not been so polite. The situation on the bus route, almost immediately after it leaves the retired
: persons’ complex, will worsen in the not too distant future. ’
;'
; , Planning permission has been granted, after a “tactically withdrawn” application, to which 20 people objected, was re-sub-
. mitted, but without any objections to the previous plam being considered by our wonderful RVBC, because it was classed as a new submission. Bureaucratic logic which Weber would
have marvelled at!

Finally, in the same issue of this paper ' .there was a person who was caught out

What should have been a pleasant
few hours’ recreation turned out to be a nightmare one, which instead of costing
: charges) turned into a £50 shocker. I have always wondered why it isThat Ribble Valley Borough Council isspend-
a few pounds, (parking fee and admission
i ing money in its pursuit on trying to stop people using its recreation facilities. : Could it be these facilities are in line for closure
undcr.the present financial climate on the grounds that they may be under used?. ■ .
.May I suggest that anyone using these . facilities at Edisford do what hundreds.
; ’ are doing and use the free parkins on Ed isford Road. ■
This attack on the public by RVBC is
losing them some £4,000 a year in lost revenue by my reckoning.
Prosecuting users in this way is not ac
ceptable and should be curtailed immedi ately.
It seems that the national newspaper
