Scourge of the scammers Jim finally calls it a day

HE has been threatened with a gun, led successful campaigns to get the law changed and helped thousands of people across Lancashire who have been ripped off.
But now Jim Potts, the custom
er’s friend, is retiring after a 41-year career in Trading Standards. Jim j'oined Lancashire County
Council as Chief Trading Stand ards Officer in 1986. He took its Trading Standards Service from obscurity to one of the UK’s high est performing and best value serv ices, dealing with more than 40,000 new consumer problems each year. The service also advises and regu lates more than 30,000 Lancashire businesses. In a career that has taken him
to Cheshire, the West Midlands and Greater Manchester en route to Lancashire, Jim has a few no table firsts: he was the first trad ing standards officer to appear on

TICKETS are now available for a “fun walk” around Clitheroe to raise funds for two worthwhile charities. The event, which is being organised by the Mayor of Clitheroe
Coun. Alan Yearing and Mayoress Mrs Susan Yearing, will raise funds for their two chosen charities, OJ’s Sensory Interaction Trust, which supports children with autism and their families, and Crossroads Care. The walk will be held on Sunday, September 26th, at 4-30 p.m.

Centre toasts new graduates
MEMBERS of staff from Ribblesdale Chil dren’s Centre in Clitheroe are celebrating their own graduations. Nicola Brooks, Nichola Duane and Fiona
Owen have all achieved a BA (Hons) de grees in Early Years’ Education and Child care, while Amy Brunskill has achieved a foundation degree in the same subject and plans to move on to a BA (Hons) degree this year. A further six employees will either continue or embark on the same course. The Queen’s Road centre, which has a
strong commitment to ongoing staff devel opment, believes that the knowledge and experience gained is reflected in the quality of education and care delivered throughout the setting. The successful graduates will add to the already considerable experience and qualifications of the centre staff.
