RECENTLY recruited to the Rotaiy Club of Ribblesdale, Barry Wood delivered a never-to-be- forgotten job talk. Barry is a master baker and

after explaining why he’s in bak ery, where he learnt his craft and how he was bullied and teased as a rookie baker by all the women when he worked at Begley’s Bet ter Bakery (no longer in exist ence), he proceeded to make a perfect Black Forest gateau.

consists of one course followed by coffee, which is deliciously pre pared by the chef at Eaves Hall Country Hotel every week, but the sigh of anticipation was au dible when Barry’s creation went through to the kitchen to be sliced. Dessert as well this time-yum'

The Rotarian’s meal usually by Sue Hind But then the fun bit started...

Barry asked for two volunteers. He had brought with him more chocolate sponges, lots more

cherry filling, whipped cream and so on. Those o f you who are old

enough will remember Bruce For syth’s Generation Game will guess what was coming. Fellow Rotarians watched with

glee as volunteers Jeff Cowling and David Sunderland competed

with each other to make their own gateau. The clapometer was pretty conclusive, but the outcome must

remain a secret to save the loser’s blushes. •
