Zoe’s heartfelt gym challenge

by Julie Magee

WHILE everyone knows that regular exercise is good for you, being motivated to get ac tive can sometimes be haif the battle. . Oniy 12.8% ofwomen in theUK

do three sessions of 30 minutes moderate exercise and a Ribbie Vaiiey woman is on a mission to change this. * . Heaithy Lifestyie co-ordinator

Zoe Pickard plans to improve the fitness of Ribbie Valley women through staying healthy and enjoy ing exercise. Zoe is putting her plan in to ac

tion with the help of Sitting Pretty gym, where members can complete a choice of 60km, 45km or 30km in 30 days throughout November. All those participating will

be taking positive steps towards shaping up for the festive season, improving fitness and raising vital funds for the British Heart Foun dation. Any of the aerobic machines

at Sitting Pretty gym in Whalley Road, Clitheroe, can be used, but participants will be encouraged to set their sights high and bum off as many calories as possible. Sponsorship can be for each km

reached or for the total distance and all money raised will be do nated to the BHF. Non-members can also take part

in the challenge by signing up for the month of November as a one off trial and subtracting the fee from their sponsorship. Zoe hopes that the women of Ribbie Valley will use this event as

an incentive to get active and show their support for a worthy cause. She said: “We really want to

raise as much money as possi ble for the BHF. Exercising is a great way of keeping your heart healthy.” Heart disease is complex, unpre

dictable and can affect anyone of any age. Every year, thousands of people die prematurely from heart disease, and for those who survive life can be frightening and hard. Barbara Dunn, fund-raising vol

unteer manager for the BHF in Lancashire, said: “We would like

to express our sincere thanks to Zoe and Sitting Pretty for organ ising this event in aid of the BHF. All funds raised make a huge dif ference to the BHF’s urgent fight against heart and circulatory disease, the UK’s single biggest killer.” • If you would like to organise

a fund-raising event in support of the BHF, or if you are interested in volunteering opportunities in your area, call Barbara Dunn on 01772 455 147 or email dunnb@ bhf.org.uk. For information about the BHF, visit www.bhf.org.uk
