; The Dragons Den favourite and multi-mil- - lionaire has just completed filming for his .;-;- new Virgin 1 TV show Seaside Rescue. During the six-part series, the straight talking Scotsman heads to some of the UK’s top sea side destinations - Sandham Rides in the Isle of Wight, Mannings Amusement Park, Felixstowe, PolzeatlTs Carman Farm, Timnels Through Time in Newquay, Westcliffe : • Leisure Park m Ramsgate and Coast View Holiday Park in Teignmouth - to deliver some home tmths to failing businesses...

He is convinced that while times might be

. tough, there’s still plenty of money to be made. .

, The British seaside had more than visitors in

'2009 than in the previous three or four years because of the recession. So these people

-should have been taking advantage of that but most of them weren’t, he says. With his . strong Scottish accent, he explains that it’s

I not just seaside resorts which could be making money at the moment either. “Interest rates go up and down, so actually a lot of people have more money in their pockets during a recession than they did before.” So how can the average UK household make their money go further?

.

“It’s just a case o f looking at your finances and planning carefully. Make sure you know what you are spending your money on. It’s also worth checking things like credit cards to see how much

. interest you're paying”.-. The financial. hot-shot certain ly knows what he’s talking about. He’s fea tured on the

“But running a business is real life - it’s not

just something you do when yoircome out a nightclub and have slept off the'drink! You’ve got to be dedicated”.

Having faced some bizarre pilches on Dragons Den, Duncan understands the poten tial pitfalls of business better than most. And, as we’ve seen, he’s never shy of opting out if he doesn’t believe in the product. “Anyone who’s starting a business whether it’s washing cars or cleaning windows, just needs to make sure they have a product they can sell,” he says. “If you are lacking in expe rience but you’ve got a good idea, it’s well worth giving it a shot. And you can always learn as you go” he says. ‘‘You will soon work out what you’re good at and what you’re not good at. For cxampIcT-J’m good with figures but I’m not tliat greatal IT, so I've got people, who are good at if-k. Duncan confesses he is constantijiconsumed with work and this does have it’stdownsides. “I liave tills problem where I’ll go anywhere, . like a cafd, and I’ll look at it and think about how I could improve
