Reynolds, currently player/ coach at rivals.. Bamber Bridge, led Lordy’s Legends, captained by Clitheroe’s 2004 North West Counties First Division title-winning skipper Adam Gardner, to a 4-3 memorial match suc-
- cess over Peter Smith’s mix- and-match Blues side. : Smith’s
daughters, , FOOTBALL
Bernadette and Rebecca,: also raised £400 during the game after carrying buckets through the stands. All proceeds will be
donated to The Stroke Foundation.
■ The day’s entertainment started with a minute’s applause in memory of ‘Mr Shawbridge’ as his wife Peggy opened ‘Lordy’s Bar’ - with the clubhouse re named in his honour.
Clitheroe.manager Smith
said: “It was a great day. “Credit to all the players
on both sides and everyone who turned up..
“People came from far
afield to pay their respects and it was lovely to see. “The pitch was frozen
and under normal circum stances the game wouldn’t have been played, but it was for Lordy.
• “It wasn’t a serious game,
it was a bit of fun but it was still nice to see some old faces back at Shawbridge. “Tile Legends won 4-3. after we had led 3-0, but it
. wasn’t about the result, it was about Lordy.” Lord had been the club’s groundsman for more than
- 50 years, prompting a long service award in 1988 from the Lancashire FA. He was also chairman, acting man
ager and a dedicated com mittee member at various stages, willing to undertake any job that needed doing at the ground, and all the work he did do over the years was done without payment. The Lord family has been connected with the dub for
• over 70 years, and Keith’s father Arthur was a former chairman. Top left, Peggy Lord is
pictured opening ‘Lordy’s Bar’, while above, grand son Darren Lord, front left, prepares, for kick-off with Adam Gardner. Below, the sides show
their respect with a minute’s applause, while centre and bottom left shows action from the memorial match.
