UNLIKE many farm­ ers in the Ribble Val­ ley who were forced to diversify following the foot and mouth crisis in 2001, the Backhous­ es at Clough Bottom Farm, Bashall Eaves, had the foresight, as early as the 1960s, to look at how the farm’s income could he boost­ ed by introducing dif­ ferent varieties of live- stock, poultry and modifying farm pro­
