mayoresses of Clitheroe and the Kibble Valley were also present. Two guests who had travelled from Wales were Helen and Clyde Parker. Helen is Mr Jones’ daughter and she acted as his mayoress when he was mayor in 1990.
Following her welcome
speech, the Mayor, a keen sup porter of the young, introduced 11-year-old Thomas Wiggans, who sang two beautiful solos accompanied by Mr Frank Ash ton on piano. ■ - Later a piano recital was given
by Nick Howley, another talent ed young musician, and during the meal the John Wickham Trio played a selection of popu lar music.
A competition to guess the
combined weight of the Mayor and her consort was won by the Mayor of Wyre and raised £78 for the mayor’s charities, which are Friends of Clitheroe Hospi tal and Action for Children. A raffle was also held in aid of the

the Kibble Valley, Coun. Lois Rimmer, and her con sort husband, Gordon, plus members of the Lan cashire Constabulary. They included dog handler PC John Ellis, accompanied by his labrador. During the interval PC Ellis thanked the audience for attending and supporting the event. He also gave a talk ab out police dogs and why people should suppor t the fund. The fund committee also
made a presentation to PC Ellis. An excellent supper was served, followed by more foot- tapping songs.' The evening, which was

TALENTED young people are set to take centre stage and perform in front of a large audience. An exiting new venture is taking
place a t St Mary’s Parish Church on Saturday, November 21st. Music a t St Mary’s is presenting
“Showcasing Young T a len t” , a concert,which will be performed by a number of very talented young musicians representing some of the local schools. The programme will include vocalists, cellists, a saxophonist, a
f la u t is t and a trumpeter . The morning will be informal and is intended to be a relaxed affair. Cof-
,'fee will be served a t 11 a.m. and the concert will run from 11-30 a.m. to approximately 12-30 p.m. The concert is free of charge.
