Earby. . After a week of torrential
rain, the locals were thank ful the game was on, but the playing surface made play ing any football hard work. Waddington, however, created chance after chance. The Turkish duo of Avci

long ball from Avci found Haslam on the right, and he beat his marker and crossed low and hard for Jackson to side foot from five yards. Wave after waye of attack
from the Tangerines result ed in one-on-ones for Haslam, Berry and Ersahin, but they either missed the target or the keeper made good saves. This gave the home team
added hope, and they capi talised on the missed chances to score on the break. After a team talk from

the players and guests, thanking the players for their efforts throughout the season. He also thanked the sponsors for
their financial support. He praised the efforts of Paul Whitaker and Geoff Lambert for their
help in ensuring that the wickets were probably the best in the Craven League. The captains, Dave Lakin and John
Moore, presented the trophies and gave the highlights of the season which saw the first team finish a very cred itable fourth in the Second Division, and the second team, despite having to forfeit four games at the start of the season due to lack of players, finished mid-table. The club is very thankful to the new
players who joined this year and are very optimistic for the new season. An amusing game of Question of

■ Oswaldtwistle were much the better side in the first Half, going, in front before goals from Dinsdale and Lloyd gave the visitors a flattering 2-2 scoreline at half-time.
The home side might have
thought they had missed their chance ^ slowly Rimington began to dominate the second half, but they could not make the most of their superior pos- - session. The champions went behind
again when a cross from the by-line deflected off the unlucky Clarke and into his own net. Rimington thought they had equalised when Lloyd rose
to head in but a late linesman’s flag ruled out the goal for off side, and in the dying moments Lloyd was tripped in the area when one-on-one but amazingly the referee waved play-on. Terry Braithwaite was
philisophical about the result. He said: “I t was going to
happen sometime, but the trick will be how we react to the defeat. “We have some really tough
games coming up and we must ensure we stay positive and get back to winning ways immedi ately. “Credit to all the players
who have contributed to the unbeaten run, their attitude and commitment have been exemplary in the main and as the league gets stronger each season I can’t see anyone doing it again. There are a lot of teams capable of winning the title but I believe we will
be there or thereabouts. We have missed the quality of Nick Curtis and Tom O’Neill this season and I look forward to their return which will strengthen the squad. “Andrew Hartley will hope
fully return soon too so that will help during December and January as the big games comes thick and fast.” This week sees a tough trip

A GROUP of local horse racing enthusi asts tasted success last Friday at Hexham when Freedom Flying duly obliged in the Tyne Valley Selling Handicap Hurdle. Fly, as she is known by the owning syn
dicate, Royal Whalley Racing - who have several members of Whalley Cricket Club in their ranks - came home by a comfort able three and a half lengths under seven pound claimer Kyle James. • The horse was previously trained by
Joss Saville at Cisburn, but was having her first run for Philip Kirby, who is based at Castleton in North Yorkshire. Kirby was confident that the extra half
mile would do the trick, and was spot on with his judgement. Running over two and half miles for the
first time, the horse, having gone close in ^ her previous two outings, finishing second in both at Sedgefield, went into the win ners enclosure after a fine performance. Tucked in nicely by the young jockey.
Super Sud! Horse racing she moved up and tracked the leaders on
■ the second circuit before storming clear coming round the final bend, and she stayed on well in long home straight. Syndicate spokesman Stephen Brown
said: “That’s a great result for us, Philip has had the horse just over a month and has got a result first time out. “Every credit to him, and Kyle, who
rode her exactly as told by Philip. “We are all delighted and thank both
Philip and Joss Saville for their efforts in getting us a winner. Hopefully she can go on and build on the win, provided the handicapper is not to harsh. “She also will be good horse in novice
chases, having schooled well over the big ger obstacles.” The horse was entered in a race yester
day, but at the time of writing was not sure to be declared as a runner.
CLITHEROE ace Andy Sudworth helped win the aimual Champion of Champions team event in Great Yarmouth at the weekend. The Low Moor Club A player
was representing Preston Indepen dent Pool League winners Ley Inn Five Queues a t the competition, where the best team from each league competes for the overall title. Each team consists of seven
players, which can include two pro fessionals. Ley Inn’s professionals were Lee Clough and Gareth Hibhott, who are both in the top 10 on the UK Professional Tour. A total of 96 teams qualified for
the event, with Ley Inn among the favourites. There was initially a round-robin group of three teams, where the top
team of each group got through, to qualify for the last 32. The format was then a straight
knockout. Ley Inn played extremely ivell,
and came through to win the final convincingly, 8-1. Sudworth won eight out of 10
frames over the weekend, while Clough won 13 frames out of 14. The prize money for winning the
event was £2,500, and it is the first time a team from Lancashire has won a national team event since 1995. Sudworth’s present team. Low
