Spooky childrelh;'gl teachers a

A PUN day of spooky sensory experiences was enjoyed by Clitheroe

-youngsters. Children from Edis-

ford's nursery and recep-; tion class dressed up as their favourite spooky characters and did their

' best to scare their teach ers. .

They took p a r t in a

range of activities mak ing spider biscuits and

‘ creating cauldron concoc tions for Meg the witch, feeling their way through

green slime to sort the mini beasts and collect ing worms from the black swamp.

Great fun was had by

all in Winnie the Witch's castle and at the end of the day the children took home a handy bat print or a witch's hat. • Edisford school has

nursery places available for children aged three and four.

School’s new state-of-the-art facility

TELEVISION sports presenter Peter Steven son visited the Valley to open a state-of-the-art music and multi-media block. He was a t Rowland

High School to see for himself the s ite's new £385,000 facility. The ground-breaking

block is the first school building in the county to be exclusively heated by a heat exchange pump which obtains heat from

'the ground in the field in front of the block, provid ing very sustainable cre dentials. With extensive views

across the Valley, the design of the new music and multi-media block includes a veranda designed for outdoor per formances. As well as industry

standard ICT equipment and a hi-tech music room, the building also provides two practise rooms and

an entrance foyer. Headteacher Mr

Stephen Cox said: "We are delighted with this new facility and it is fan tastic to see our pupils having access not only to' a 21st Century building and such cutting edge

technology, b u t also to one which makes a big statement ab o u t our commitment to the envi ronment. “They are incredibly

enthused about the new technology and i t has brought y e t another

dimension to learning at Bowland." Our pic tu re shows

Ringers Although the bells of Whalley Parish Church are usually muffled when visiting ringers play, on Saturday the ringers had to take the mufflles off so the bells could ring out loud and clear for a wed ding. Then they had to replace the muffles.

The occasion was a ringing by Blackburn and East Lancashire Association of Changeringers, which takes in ringers from Blackburn to Colne. On Sunday the team rang a quarter peal in memory of Ruth Mansley who died a few weeks ago.

Remembrance

Congregations of Whalley Parish Church- and Whalley Methodist Church held a joint serv ice in the parish church before the annual Rememberance parade. Pipers led a procession from Church Lane to the war memorial in Station Road. The procession included villagers, repre sentatives of village organisations. Cubs, Scouts and Brownies. The laying of wreaths was led by the Royal British Legion. The tra ditional short service was con'ducted by Canon Norman Atty.

Presentation A pupil a t St Augustine's School, Elizabeth Kell-' away, gave a presentation a t both Masses a t the weekend a t the English Martyrs' RC Church in support of CAFOD, which has strong support from her school. Boxes supporting the mission ary appeal at the church have realised £1,300 towards helping people, especially in the Third World.

Man charged with burglary

THERE were spooky sights in Chipping on Hal lowe'en. Committee members

from the village's Chil dren's Community

Alliance, led by Kerrie Donnachie, held a success ful fancy dress party in the village hall for more than 100 children. Games included “dress

the mummy” with a toilet roll, musiial statues, apple bobbing, touchy feely boxes and daiicing to entertain the little witches and wizards, ghosts and

ghouls. Home-made cakes and refreshments were enjoyed which helped to raise more than £400 for the group which is a regis tered charity, (s)
