aggrieved after reading infor mation included in a report by - administrators Baker Tilly. - ■ ' ■ : I t records that from 2005 to ■ 2007, the company generated net profits of £537,000 with ■ dividends to shareholders - amounting to £565,000 over the same period - therefore - £28,000 more than the school’s net profits were paid out to/; shareholders during that time./ “Accordingly, the company

retained-., limited -liquid -: resource to fund future capital:/ expenditure and/or downturns in trading,” admin is trato rs ' state in the report. Despite this, in 2007, con stru ctio n began on a new-

by current school principal John Harrison. This was pre dominantly, funded by a loan

and overdraft from Barclays Bank pic.

of administrators on Decern- her 23rd, th e business and

assets were sold, th a t same day, to Moorland P riv a te School Ltd whose directors are Mr and Mrs Harrison. ■ i : The only option open to Mr

Smith now is to remove the building materials that he sup- / plied. “Technically we could go

and recover, the goods, but-, although the building is not . yet finished, all the scaffolding has already been taken down.

/ “If I do th a t though i t - might cost me £5,000 to recov- • er th e goods,” Mr Smith explained. • He added that some of -the

businesses affected have no way. of, recovering their losses / such as unpaid supply teach ers.

school in 1988 before passing it on to his son-in-law, who acted as director and shareholder of the business from 2002.

' “We are trying really hard

now to recover from this,” he said. : “We had no idea of the mag

nitude of the debts; The pre-vi- ous director took more money out of .the school than was pru dent to do.” Mr Harrison added that the

school had never had debts previously and that he had the g re a te s t sympathy-for Mr Smith. “Once you go into adminis

at Moorland School, said he ■ had been faced with the unen- • viable situation of closing or • saving the school. • He originally bought the
