THIS letter is a copy of one sent to Lancashire County Council and signed by 14 residents of Pendle Court: We, being some of the res

idents at Pendle Court (a purpose-built complex for older people, owned by Rib- ble Valley) are concerned about the difficulty experi enced by essential services pulling up by our entrance steps/access slope. These include ambulances, fire engines, local buses, taxis and private collection and return of residents. Recently, one resident with walking problems fell

.badly while trying to access a local taxi. The paramedics had to

attend. This is not a one-off incident; many of the resi dents walk with difficulty using sticks or crutches. Distance and ease of stepping up to vehicles, usu

thoughtless general parking, these vehicles often have to park some way from the steps and slower moving residents can panic about getting there in time. We request as a matter

now of some urgency that yellow lines or. “H” marks to denote an entrance be provided along the length of the steps - about the length of the small local bus. This request has been

made in the past, we under stand, but has not reached the top of the priority list. Please now reconsider this before further accidents occur, especially with car ownership ever increasing.

children need you New phase of development for the Children's Centre Initiative in Lancashire!

The Government's Children's Centre Initiative aims to support all i families with young children by providing a range of high quality services. The services to be delivered via the children's centre must include early education, family support, health and training.

Lancashire has targets to develop more children's centres in phase 3 (2008-2010), so if you are interested in learning about how children's centres are helping your community and the plans to bring more children's centres to your area you may want to attend the following meeting:

had a lovely pink cycle helmet, which she carried on her handle bars. She had no lights on her cycle. She looked as if she was pri mary school age. To this little girl and her parents

I just want to say that on a win ter’s morning a few years ago my brother-in-law was out cycling and did not wear a helmet either. He never came home because he

was knocked off his bicycle and ended up in intensive care with brain damage. A week later his family switched off his life sup port. My message to the parents of

this pretty little girl is: if you value your child’s life, make sure she is protected and wears protec tive clothing when out cycling. It is nearly seven years since my brother-in-law died and all we have are our memories. I would hate for this little girl's family to go through that same pain, all for the sake of not wearing her hel met.

We are only a small town really.

but it seems that the taxi firms are taking over. They park on their taxi rank, bu t also park right down the road, sometimes on the other side waiting for another taxi to move. Some are the most inconsiderate, arrogant drivers, never waiting even if it is not their right of way. Along Woone Lane in Ciitheroe

there are up to 16 taxis parked, sometimes double parking, and there are always three 12-seater minibuses. If you have a business tha t involves vehicles surely you must have adequate parking facilities for that business. There is going to be an accident on this road in the near future as many children use this road. It would not matter how road conscious they are, it is inevitable.

What harm is

being done here? OTHER residents of the village of Chatburn too have noticed that the casual access to the fields at the end of Greenfield Avenue has been denied by vicious barbed wire. Is this because young people

have been using the recent wintry weather to use their sledges on the slopes beyond - a practice that has become tradition over decades? It is one thing to ensure cattle

or sheep are contained - another to deny access to local people - and children. As I understand, there is no

legal or binding law of trespass unless wilful damage is commit ted.

What harm have these little people done?
