Fine day for ramblers
AFTER a clear, frosty night, 24 ramblers left the Spring Wood picnic area, Whalley, under a blue sky and with only a slight breeze - ideal conditions for a walk. Led by Norman Thorpe,
the walk went first by Port- field, where the ramparts of the ancient hill fort were clear to see, and over to Read Old Bridge, with its reminder of the battle in the Civil War. The way then went by

Glamour night boosts funds
A SEASONAL ball raised £3,200 for new equipment at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School. The event, organised by the school’s

Association of Friends, was held at the Mytton Fold Hotel. Guests included committee members,
parents and staff, and music was provid ed by the Clitheroe Grammar School Swing Band. Money raised a t the event will go
towards the purchase of a digital projec tor for the hall. Our photograph shows the glamorous

On leaving the road to go down by Robinson's Wood, a short stop was made to admire the view of the countryside across the valley, from Wiswell Moor to Pendle, floodlit by the strong sunlight. The route was followed through Sabden and up to Churn Clough Reservoir where a stop was made for lunch - warm sun-

After discussing the various stories associated ivith this spot, the group returned a little way up the hill to the trig point to sit and admire the view over the Ribble Valley. developed so the Yorkshire Peaks could not be seen.
Then the group descended
to th e track past Wiswell Moor Houses, and continued behind Clerk Hill and down by Whalley Golf Course to end a t Spring Wood. After all the rain and mud
of recent weeks, it had been a delight to be out in the sun shine on firm ground.
