Thursday feature focuses oil a party girl.. ^ Happy birthday Sweet 16!
IT used to be the traditional 18 and 21, but it seems British youngsters are taking the lead from American children by opting for “sweet 16” birthday parties. Sixteen is the new 18 and this was evi
dent a t Kibble Valley teen Louise Paul’s birthday bash. The Year 11 Ribblesdale High School
Technology College pupil celebrated in style with more than 120 friends at the So Bar, King Street, Ciitheroe. Dressed in red, the birthday girl from
Hudson’s Ice-Cream, in Chatbura, arrived in a white Limousine with eight of her best friends to the “My Super Sweet 16” themed celebration - the first of its kind to be held in the Kibble Valley. Highlights included a VIP sweet 16
room, a non-alcoholic cocktail fountain and chocolate fountain. Speaking about the evening, her moth

16th birthday bash because she loves watching MTV’s re a l ity series ‘My Super Sweet 16’, which portrays the lives of teenagers and how they pre pare and celebrate th e ir traditional coming-of-age birth day parties. “So, I decided to
contact Oliver Clegg at the So Bar and he did a wonderful job in organising it.”

ARTWORK designed to bring colour to the corridors of a Ciitheroe housing scheme has been unveiled. Pieces designed by youngsters from
St Vincent’s Manchester Foyer are on display at the organisation’s Castle Keep development - the former Kirk- moor Road council depot. Residents were asked to vote for
their favourite works of art and the Mayor of the Kibble Valley, Coun. Doreen Taylor, handed out vouchers to the top three winning artists and con-
solation prizes to all those who had submitted pieces. The top spot went to a painting of
tulips by Amelia Lee, while Brionne Entwistle’s farmers’ field earned her second place and Sarah Strutt came third with her daisy gerbera. All the pictures were based on a “city
coming to the countryside” theme. Our photograph shows The Mayor of
the Kibble Valley, Coun. Doreen ’Tay lor, with some of the young artists. (S130208/1)

graphic Society, Mr Bartley described his career in aeronautics and photogra phy starting when, as a schoolboy, he was persuaded by his father to go up in an aircraft for the first time. From th a t day on he was hooked on
anything which flew. Commencing, with the portfolio he
had presented to the Royal Photo graphic Society, he described in fasci nating detail the stories behind the pic tures. A wide-ranging series of photos was
projected with crystal clarity and glori ous colour, from reconstructed early 20th Century aeroplanes including the Lancaster, Spitfire, early jet airliners
and, of course, the beautiful Concorde. All the images came with stories
about the why, what and how, laced with considerable humour. Mr Bartley proved to be a truly gift
ed speaker who has achieved his life’s ambition - to fly a Tiger Moth. Probus club chairman Mr Dennis
Ogden thanked the speaker for taking members truly “out of this world”. A return visit from Mr Bartley is
promised as he has an enormous portfo lio of slide shows ranging over many subjects. The next meeting of the Ciitheroe
and District Probus Club is on March 7th, a t the Pendle Club, Lowergate, Ciitheroe, a t 10-45 a.m. when Ian Tootell will talk to the title “The Ori gin Of Marriage”. Inquiries about the club can be made on 01200 429207.
