Superb singers’ tasteful music

A CONCERT hosted by the Inner! Wheel Club of Ribblesdale in the Ribble j Valley Council Chamber was a huge suc cess, both socially and financially. . The Nightingale Singers were superb I

and presented a programme of music to suit all tastes. A good supper was also enjoyed by everyone and the magnificent sum of £1,000 was raised for the North West Air Ambulance and the East Lan-1 cashire Hospice.

'

' The May meeting of the Inner Wheel | Club always takes the form of a walk and this year it was from the Calf's Head at Worston. Fortunately it was a pleasant evening and member Mrs Carol Cowell had organised an excellent route, with | very good going underfoot. The circular walk brought members I back to, the Calf’s Head for a good supper.'

Ruth’s support for miscarriage sufferers

A NEW support group for women who have suffered a miscarriage meets for the first time tonight. The Lancashire Miscarriage

Support Group has been set up as a charity by 27-year-old. Ruth Snape and her husband Andy (33) after they suffered a miscarriage last Christmas. I t aims to help other griev

ing families come to terms with the loss of their unborn baby. Ruth, of Whitewell Bottom,

said: “I had to go to hospital on Christmas Eve with pains and I found out that I had lost my baby after eight-and-a-half weeks. I t was an absolute shock, we.

had spent th a t las t month showing people the scan. “We got through Christmas

the best we could and in Janu ary I was quite positive. Then in Febuary.it all jus t h i t me and I spent a couple of months trying to come to terms that we had lost our baby.” Ruth, who works in a mental

health rehabilitation unit, said it was the lowest she had ever

felt. She decided that she wanted ,

to help other families like hers after she was unable to find any support groups in the Lan cashire area. „ ■ “I spent a lot of time when I

was a t my lowest looking for some face-to-face support and i t took me a month to find some actual counselling. At some points I felt like I was not going to get through it I was so low. “When I was like this the

only thing that got me though it was talking to other people who had gone through i t . I pushed everyone near me away, even though all my family were really supportive.” . Now R u th wants o th er

women who go through a simi lar experience to know th a t they are no t alone and have someone to talk to if they like. She addedi.TBefore i t all

happened the word ‘miscar riage’ did not mean anything

tons. “The one th in g we found

p a r t ic u la r ly hard to do is grieve because society does not see i t as a death. But to us to was our baby who had its own heartbeat who we lost.” The first-meeting takes place

to n ig h t a t Holy T r in i ty Church, Oswaldtwistle, a t 7 p.m; and is open to anyone who has experienced pregnancy loss.
