sizeable crowd, enjoying some superb weather, saw a lively, occa sionally feisty encounter, coupled ivith some cracking open rugby. The President’s team, made up
of second team regulars, and. fleshed out with some former Clitheroe players, were well mar shalled by outgoing captain Dan Jefferson. With nothing to lose for the
Invitation team, it was always going to be tricky for Clitheroe to ; focus and play their own game, but with a strong bench to rotate, they were able to exert their supe riority from the outset. In the back line, the centre part
nership of Matt Bartle and Paul Callaghan was key. ■ Both have only joined the Lit- tlemoor club during this season.

Danny bags a classy hat-trick

A C L A S S Y second half hat-trick from Green’s leading scorer Danny Walker enabled the visi tors to canter to victory in the final game of a rare trophy-less season. 'The home side threat
ened first as their livewire striker wriggled free in the
. box and brought a decent save from keeper Seedall. Coar and Chippendale
started to find space behind the home defence as the half drew on, and it was no surprise to see Chippendale grab the game’s first goal, latching,, on to a neat Coar dummjr.
' The Green striker';, grabbed his and Green’s second as he poked in fol lowing good work from Danny Taylor. ■ . The youngster then scored his third league goal. of the season as he lashed into the top corner, and three could have become four as Walker pulled a shot wide.
- The home side were hit - for a fourth at the start of the second half.when an;
■ excellent move down the/; ; left involving Bolton, Coar. ■ and Chippendale played in ■
,
■ The visitors were ramr; ■' pant, with Stuart Malleyi'v
completely dominating the middle of the park, ably assisted by Tipton. Walker then scored his
second, as a Tipton corner was knocked straight back across goal for the striker to tap in at the back post. Walker was denied his
hat-trick as he broke the off-side trap and lobbed the keeper, only for the ball to cannon back off the bar, but he soon scored again as he coolly fired into the opposite comer. Runners-up spot in the
league and a semi-final in the Lancashire Amateur; Cup was a case of so' riear yet so far, and an improved campaign is needed next season. ■

Riminglnn Resemes ^ .3 Hurst Green Reserves -.3 T H E final game of the season saw Rimington dis appoint local rivals Hurst Green, who needed a win to lift the league title. I's . It didn’t take long for

the pace of their forwards, but couldn’ t find the equaliser. Rimington went further
ahead after 25 minutes when Carter laid the ball off to Bru n skill and he took one touch to steady himself and confidently finished into the corner. With 10 minutes of the
half to go, Hurst Green got the break they were look ing for. A nice one-two on the
edge of the box should have been closed down, but the striker powered the ball home.
' T y p ic a l ly it took an
injury to let the away side back in the game. Inspirational Shaun
Hartley rose for a header and landed badly, forcing an early substitution, with Brown coming on. He struggled to adapt to
the ferocious tempo, lost track of the long ball, and
: with it his man; and that left the player to equalise. The second half saw the
tables turned as Hurst Green dominated. However,' it was the
home side who scored on; the break, when the flair and agility of Sam Johns created space'in the box- and he unselfishly squared to Liam Carter to calmly
. place home for a 3-2 lead. : Hurst Green'cbntinned
to pile everyone forward and managed to level the scores once again. L e f t back Wasim
Balouchi should have done the simple thing and clear the ball when no danger looked imminent. However, the right
winger cut inside and played a simple ball to the forward, who found the bottom corner for 3-3 with 20 minutes to go. Hurst Green continued
to dominate, but couldn’t find the goal that would have clinched the title.. . . Dog Inn . . . . . . . . . . . .0 Dog and Otter . . . . . . . 5 D OG Inn’s slender hopes of winning the H a r ry Dewhurst Memorial League Division One evap orated after this defeat. The Whalley side had to win to stand any chance of t itle success but, after shading a nervy first half- hour, fell behind from a corner. Otter killed off Dog's
hopes with three goals early in the second half. A fifth completed the rout, although the scoreline was harsh on the locals. Manager Simon Kerins
was very disappointed at both the defeat and the performance:-.“We have one game left and it is vital ■ that we win it.” , < ^

home-based players to catch the eye were youngsters Danny Cowgill and Kieron Keough, along with the evergreen Brian Wood. It was especially pleasing to see
stalwart Geoff Williamson still plugging away, and turning out regularly, after playing in
Clitheroe’s first-ever fixture. Th e CO founder of the club,
Derek Jones, even appeared for a cameo role, just to see it things had changed since he kicked things off 30 years ago. Scorers for Clitheroe were Mar
tin Lafranceschina, Steve Dow- son, Paul Callaghan (2) and Simon Gretton, with a solitary James McAloonan try in reply.
Presentations were made after
