outfit led the indie folk/pop band to change their name from The Rascallies to The Ragamuffins, but it certain ly hasn’t hindered their progress. Recently one of their tracks was played on BBC Radio Five Live during the half-time interval at Anfield in Liverpool’s Cham pions League win over Inter Milan! They have also been interviewed and had their music aired on BBC Radio Lancashire, with an excellent

response from listeners. The band will also play

live on the opening night of Clitheroe’s new multimedia arts centre. The Grand, on March 29th, earning a place in the history of their home town. The talented new line-up is

Paul Heck on bass, trumpet and vocals, Richard Nichol son on drums and percussion, and David Jaggs on vocals, organ, piano, harmonica and guitar.

■ In recent months they have played venues in Man chester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, Sheffield, Devon, South Wales and more, but are looking forward to The Grand’s opening night - their first Clitheroe gig for almost six months. As David Jaggs

commented: “Despite play ing further afield, we certain ly don't want to lose touch with Clitheroe - the place we grew up in. There's nothing like a hometown gig to excite! “We've also got a brand

new EP out and are current ly looking through a number of interested parties with regard to securing a genuine ‘release’ of it as a record.” Until then you can hear

the band’s music, listen to the Radio Lancashire inter view and find out more about The Ragamuffins on new website/myspace page: www.theragamuffins.co.uk Tickets for The Grand

The Bullfrog's on stage

ON stage in concert a t the Thwaites Empire Theatre, in Blackburn, on Friday March 28th is one of the North West’s favourite faces, Bernard

Wrigley, pictured. Bernard - affectionately known

as The Bolton Bullfrog - is known as an actor, singer and storyteller. Many will remember him from Emmerdale a few years ago when he played Barry Clegg, the hapless rocket builder whose tvife Lisa left him for Zak Dingle. Over the years he has played no

less than seven different characters in Coronation Street. He was also in three episodes of Victoria Wood’s “Dinner Ladies”, where he complained about the food, danced and sang and played the concertina. Recently he played the part of Dodgy Eric in Peter Kay’s “Phoenix Nights”, where he sold a mechanical bucking bronco to the club (with disastrous results). In the second series he insisted that Brian Potter hire a bouncy castle.

complete with a 15ft. phallic extension - “Sammy The Snake”. He's no stranger to Blackburn,

having presented many of the morning shows on BBC Radio Lancashire, as well as four of his own series. Recently, BBC Radio 2 listeners

could hear Bernard guesting on the Mark Radcliffe show four times. He released his book “Shorts For All Occasions”, being a collection of daft one.-verse poems, in 2006. A new one will fol low later this year. His one-man show a t the

Thwaites Empire on March 28th will feature his unique blend of songs, stories, monologues and guitar playing, culled from almost 40 years of singing in the folk music world. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the box office on 01254680137. You can find out more about
