Clitheroe 422324 (Editorial), 422323 (Advertising), Burnley .422331 (Ciassified) TIM-Le Breton’s career-

• best bowling figures helped ■ Clitheroe record their third win of the season. : .

. . The youngster grabbed 4-55 to help his side to a' '77-run - success : at.

Career-best boosts Oswald tivistle Immanuel.;

.’ And having only been promoted to the first team

‘ this season, Le Breton is . already making an impres-. sion. ■ ; Introduced as the first

Read up to fifth

READ climbed to fifth in the Ribblesdale League table with a stunning vdc- tory at home to Edenfield. Edenfield had won five

of their first seven league games, to lie second behind : leaders Great Harwood. Much credit for their:

fine start goes to profes-. sional Babar Naeem, who had hit three centuries, and stood at 551 runs for the: season ahead of the trip to ■Whalley Road. ' But with youngster

Dlliot Lowes, in for Andrew ■ Rushton, and skipper Jon Harvey taking four wickets apiece, the visitors were.

, demolished for 111 inside 35 overs, before Read racked up the winning runs with four wickets and nine overs in hand, thanks to an unbeaten half-century from Michael Whalley.

: ' Harvey won the toss and • inserted Edenfield, and his decision was immediately vindicated as he trapped

. the prolific Naeem for just nine with the score on 15. . Fellow opener, captain

Greg Smithson, departed, 12 runs later for 10, again leg before, to Lowes, who then, for the addition of a single, removed Christian , Slinger for nine. Harvey claimed the

fourth LBW decision o f ; the day to dismiss Paul (7);

■ to leave the visitors in deep • trouble a t 38-'l, and the wickets continued to tum ble with regularity. Harvey bowled Andrew

Keir for three, and Kurt Smithson then got in on the act, having Michael Carpendale (14) caught by

bowling change, his first act was to remove the dan gerous Andrew Kerr, just, as the Ossy professional, looked set in a destructive rhythm. Defending a first innings ,■

to ta l of 245,-Clitheroe'. gained two early break-, throughs with the wickets of opening p a ir Oliver Clare (0) and Mitch Tay lor (1).

.....But Kerr was a man on

Big knock in vain

Lowesat55. Josh Hampson. and

Lester managed to compile the best stand of- the innings, worth 28, before the lat ter was caught behind by Kyle O’Connor off Harvey for seven, and Lowes claimed two more scalps, before Brett Storey was run out by 16-year-old talent Andrew Laycock, as •Edenfield were blitzed for

SKIPPER Joe Scuderi’s unbeaten 82 proved in vain as Ribblesdale Wanderers went down by 31 runs at home to in-form Padiham. Lee Anderson’s 77 not

out, and a six-wicket haul from professional Kashif Siddique, proved pivotal as Padiham maintained their place among the Ribbles dale League frontrunners.

111. Harvey returned figures

of 4-53 off 17.5 overs, with Lowes claiming 4-16 off eight, highlighting his potential. Read had a sticky spell

in reply, after Nick Marsh and Whalley put on 25 for the first wicket, but Whal ley anchored the innings to see Read home.. } ; Marsh was trapped by

William Slinger for five, and Harvey suffered the same fate for an eight-ball duck. .

.

- O’Connor (2) became Slinger’s third victim, and when .the first change bowler had Joe Marshall (6) LBW, Read were 57-4.

: Andrew Turner fell to Naeem three runs later, but Warren Eastham (16) steadied the ship, helping Whalley take the score to 82 before Naeem struck again.;.'

• That would be tlie last

wicket to fall; however, as Laycock-backed up his cameo against Blackburn Northern last week, hitting Naeem onto the road for six, before cover driving Hampson to win the game,

,and finish unbeaten on 15, with Whalley on 54., ,, :

■ Padiham had first use of the wicket, but Wanderers made an early . break through as in-form 16- year-old Abdul Saddique fell for a six-ball duck, bowled by David Howard,

■ the first of his five wickets. Older brother Umar

came to the crease to part ner Siddique, and the pair were typically lusty as they shared 42 for the sec; ond wicket, only, for the; paid man to depart for a

'19-ball. 23, again to Howard. . .

: . ■

■ Peter Shirtcliffe could add only one before being trapped by former Nelson man Richard Meade, and

'. both Umar Saddique (37) and Anthony Hall (8) were

. removed by Howard, leav ing Padiham wobbling at- 79-5. However, Anderson and. Kevin Hitchon compiled a

. critical partnership worth exactly 100, which would eventually prove match winning.

' ' .

: Howard - who else? - finally broke the pairing, having Hitchon caught by

. Gary Hunt four short of : his, half-century,:, but Anderson continued to see the ball well and finished .unbeaten on 77, with fur

ther contributions from Naveed Ashraf (7) and Peter Usher (2 not out) taking the score to 221-7.;

: Anderson’s knock came off 115 deliveries, includ ing 12 fours and a six. - . - Lancashire League leg

end Scuderi would better Anderson’s exploits in reply, but the Wanderers

• paid man found little in the way of support as the home side finished short of the target, despite having three wickets in hand. Scuderi and Alistair

Marsh provided a solid . enough start, sharing 64 for the first wicket, but once Siddique had Marsh: caught by Hitchon for 39, he swiftly struck to remove Martin Briggs (3) and: Martin Peel (1) to leave the h'ome side on 73-3. Hunt and.his former

; Colne teammate Scuderi added 56 for the fourth wicket, but it was the beginning of the end for Wanderers when Hunt :

: handed Siddique a return" catch on 31 at 129. y

'. Howard followed for, a three-ball duck,'before

, dique. ■ ,

■ Ashraf had Joe Bunyan ; (2) Stumped.by. Gavin Kelly, and Barry Spencer (2) was trapped by Sid- . ' . •

Russell Bradley batted well, hitting an unbeaten

• 22-ball 21, but even with Scuderi making 82 not out,

' Ribblesdale finished 31 runs adrift, with Siddique recording figures of 6-62 off 17 overs.

Whalley own worst enemies!

WHALLEY again proved to be their own biggest enemies following anoth er shoddy performance that leaves, them stuck in the wrong half of the table. ,

V ' It was a game they should have

controlled, after reducing Baxenden from 73-2 to 99-6, before allowing the

. tail to wag to the tune of 164. ■ - . ■ Still, 165 should still have been achieveable. . , Electing to bat, Neil Cordingley

got the vital wicket of David Parkin son for nine with 25 on the board, before Callum Waddington and the aggressive-hitting Mark Rishton took things to 73. Waddington was run out for 26,

and with only. 10 more on the board, both Rishton (37), and former Eng land One-day International all-.

' rounder Ian Austin (0) were back in the pavilion. : Simon Payne and Dominic'Bul- •: cock soon followed, and at 99-6, Whalley.looked in firm control. : But professional Will Purser and

David Crenshaw staged a recovery and took things to 153, when Cord--

■ ingley had Cronshaw (33) run out. Purser followed in the same man

ner and ducks for the last two men saw the innings close on 164; ■ .:. Abetting man would have fancied

. Whalley after tea, but they were soon 5-2, with both openers; captain Richard Palmer and Declan Fitzhen- ry dismissed, caught off Purser.. .. Rajagopal Sathish had a mad over,

once again too soon in his innings, and ended up being caught on the fence for 17, and Lee Kearsley fol-'.

lowed with the score still 31. ■ ' • John Rain didn’t last much longer before being bowled for seven by Bul- cock; and Whalley’s last major hope . Cordingley fell harshly when looking

; set on 20 with the total on 57. ■ ■ . ■ George Thomas went for two before Fallon and Stephen Booth

' brought some respectability to the '.score. ■ But Booth picked the wrong ball and holed out in the deep, following a lusty blow that removed some plas- ter from the pavilion. Fallon hit two mighty maximums

in his 35, but was ninth man out with the score on 118, and David O’Neill

was last man out shortly after. - : It amounted to anoth'er disap

a mission, crashing six fours and five sixes before a quick piece of work from wicket keeper Nick James, off Le Breton, spelled the end of his innings.

:: Earlier, a b re a t l^ ^n g . , Kerr had cracked 69

from just 67 deliveries, and • was to be the only one of the home line-up to trou ble the run-rate. Le Breton struck again

soon after to remove Daniel Metcalf (14), and when Neil Bolton came into the attack to get rid of Andrew Metcalf (20), the former struck again to send Phil Howard (28) back to the pavilion. ’ Joe Sipocz struck.an

immediate boundary, but th a t was to be his only scoring shot as he.was caught by Carl Palmer off Bolton. < • And despite a late flurry from Gerard Metcalf (22), Le Breton and Hargreaves wrapped up the tail end to skittle the home side for 168.

opening stand between paid man Paul Turner and Nick James gave Clitheroe the platform for victory. ' A partnership of 167 -

ironically just one short of Immanuel’s overall total - laid a solid foundation, with Turner smashing 12 fours and four sixes in a 70- ball knock of 86.

, James also contributed

well, hitting seven fours and four sixes in his innings of 70, while Peter Dibb

. added 39 before he was run out. ■ However, Dibb was the ■

mainstay of the innings, as he stuck around for much of , his side’s time a t the crease, until he was last man out. •

.' Only Bolton (14) and Dan Glover (11) made double. figures of the remainder of the order, but the top three had done enough to see Clitheroe to an adequate score.

i Trophy winner Stuart Gall (right), George Radivojevic (iefl) and Neii Tomlinson, (s) George misses out

THE 'Ted Tomlinson Tro phy was held at 'Whalley Bowling Club at the week end. Despite the inclement

weather on Sunday, the final rounds produced some good quality bowl ing, with an exceptional final between previous winners, Stuart Gall (2005) of Oswaldtwistle Conservative and George Radivojevic (2001) of Whalley A. Radivojevic had the

better of the opening stages, to establish a 10-5 lead. . ■ Gall regained the initia

tive and, preferring a cor- ner-to-corner mark, had a run of 10 chalks to lead 15- 10.

The next few ends were

nip and tuck, enabling Gall to have one hand on: the trophy at 20-3.;

,: ■ ■

; However, Radivojevic took control and, playing a shorter length across the green, reduced the arrears: to 18-0. At the next end, Radi-,

vojevic played two short woods, which allowed Gall to clinch the title. : :#,L. Tomlinson beat K.

Tonilinson 21-10 in the final of the Harriet Aubin Trophy at Ribblesdale Wanderers. ■ The eventual winner

beat M. Rostron in the semi-finals as K. Tomlinson accounted

forM.Nlven. . • The Spring Hill Dou

bles competition will take place at Oakhill over the

next two weeks. All games have a scratch

time of 15 minutes, with no practice.
