Families especially appreciate a relaxed attitude to eating out in the long evenings and enjoying a wide range of well-cooked traditional foods.
Even for East Lancashire folk who elect to stay on home ground it is possible to travel the world - through the menus of some of the best restaurants around.
People with a daring palate will appreciate there is a wide range of tastes available to enjoy in the area. Some often opt for dishes from a country that they have eaten before and enjoyed. Indian, Italian and Chinese dishes are firm favourites among us Brits, but the variety of foods that evoke different cultures and lifestyles is surely too tempting an opportunity to miss.
Some restaurants obviously specialise in food from one country of origin, but many establishments have menu where you can

SUMMER holidays abroad have lost none of their appeal, thanks to adventurous spirits, low-cost air travel and the unpredictable British weather.
start your meal in France, continue through Spain and end up in Greece. A similar experience can be found if you cast you eye down the wine menu. French is popular, but so are Australian and German varieties.
What about British culinary? Great traditional pub foods inspired by some of the most stunning regions in the country will never vanish from our locals, and the classiest dishes from the four corners of the UK are still served in Lancashire's top restaurants.
Interestingly, our national dishes - often unfairly criticised for their blandness - have been exported to India for the first time by celebrity chef Manju Malhi, so it will be interesting to see how our reputation for good food grows abroad.
So whether you plan to stay at home or investigate further afield, don't forget you can do it all without a passport.
