Rimington............. 6 Worsthorne . . . . . . . . . 2 RIMINGTON deservedly took all three points thanks to an excellent all round team performance. Before the kick-off, both teams, officials arid specta tors observed a minute’s silence in . memory of Christine Knowles. The wife of the current president, Derek Knowles, Christine was a club stal wart, particularly in the early years when she would wash and mend the kit,; and
heip.in any way she could.' The home side took the
lead thanks to a stunning left-foot volley from skip per Walmsley. - Jon Penman missed
with a header, and Glen Dinsdale’s chip over the keeper bounced back off the bar, but Worsthorne equalised when Lawson’s headed clearance was helped back into the area, and the striker was on hand to help it home. Rimington should have
had a penalty when a defender handled inside the six-yard area, but the referee failed to spot it. However, the visitors’
reprieve was short-lived as Paton pounced to make it 2-1, and then a superb passing move down the right resulted in Penman heading in the far post. Paton made it 4-1 mid
way in the second half with a lob over the keeper. The visitors grabbed
their second inside the last 10 minutes.; but substitute Mankowski, and then a solo effort from Penman made it 6-2. Terry Braithwaite was
very satisfied with both the result and the perform ance. They face a tough trip to
Stacksteads this Saturday. Worsthorne Reserves .3 Rimington Reserves. .6 POUR-GOAL Andrew Blackledge inspired the champions to victory. However, Rimington
went behind within two minutes as Worsthorne a tta ck ed down th e left, and a toe-poke somehow trickled into the bottom comer past the keeper. The visitors levelled
after 10 minutes when Chris Brown was played through on the left, and his shot was parried to Black- ledge for a tap-in. Worsthorne added a sec-
ond after good attacking play five minutes later, but Blackledge converted a header from close range via an in-swinging comer from JackDearden. \ - Ten minutes before the
break, James Hartlebury'.. sent three players the wrong way with a reverse ball to Blackledge, who netted his hat-trick goal with a left-foot drive. Brown then crossed for
Gary Brunskill to score his eighth of the season moments before half-time. After the break, Brun
skill set up Brown to finish from six yards. Worsthorne hit a third
with 15 minutes to go, but Blackledge had the final say as he stole the ball from a defender then chipped the keeper. Oxenliope.............. 2 Waddington ..........1 W A D D I N G T O N ’S encounter with Oxenhope started at a frantic pace to see the honours finish even. After 20 minutes the
deadlock was broken after a Oxenhope striker broke through the middle and got goal side of Peter Dug- dale, slotting home a neat shot to the right of keeper Wayne Leech. ■. Waddington immediate
ly went on the offensive with neat interchanges between the midfield four of Hirst, Thomas, Snow den and Cane and a move down the right led to Sam Deane having a shot saved. However 15 minutes
from the end of the first half Cane forced his way into the penalty area only
to be brought down with an illegal challenge, and from the resulting penalty kick Robert Lloyd con verted from the, spot to level. In second half Mark
Harrison worked hard to secure good positions in front of goal but failed to score on two occasions. ■ And as the final stages of
the-game, approached, both teams visibly tired and appeared to be con tent with a draw. Waddington are at
home on Saturday kick-off 2p.m. Hellifield Reserves . . .2 Waddington Reserves 13 RYAN McCarthy and Steven Backhouse both hit hat-tricks in this romp. . McCarthy put the locals
2-0 up before Paul Tierney added a third, but Helli field pulled two back. However, Waddington
recovered to lead 6-2 at the break, and added seven more after the interval. McCarthy completed
his hat-trick, while man- of-the-match Backhouse bagged a treble, and there were further goals from Simon Hodgson, James Waterworth and David Walmsley, who hit two each. Waddington are next in
action a week on Saturday at home to Bradley. WFC.................... 2 Gargrave
.......... 2
A LAST-minute header from debutant Matt Oak ley rescued a point for Waggon when they should have taken all three. Waggon started the
brighter, but Gargrave took their solitary first- half chance on 20 minutes when a pass in behind allowed the striker to side foot the ball past Gaskell. But after the break,
man-of-the match Garry Hickling volleyed home after an in-swinging corner by Sullivan. This was no more than
the home side deserved, and substitute Josh Hol-
gate then struck the bar with a header with his first touch. But as WFC pressed for
a winner, they over-com mitted, and a right wing centre was headed home by the Gargrave forward. Gaskell thought he
should have done better for the goal as it slipped
Through his fingers, but a ,, lack of marking in the middle was more of a con cern. With only minutes left,
WFC bombarded the box, and a hobbling ball was bravely headed in by Oak ley.
WFC would like to
thank P.C. Bishop Electri cal for sponsoring training jackets for the season. Chatburn......$.......4 Pendle Forest.
.2
CHATBURN'S first home game of the season saw them collect all three points with a fine display of football and old fash ioned defending. The locals took the lead
midway through the first half, with a wonderful 20- yard strike from Dale Caldwell inside the top comer. A second quickly fol
lowed, as Ross Preston tap in from close range. Matthew Musgrove
added a third in the second half after indecision in the Forest defence allowed him another tap in, followed by his second within minutes of the re-start with a neat back header. Forest fought back and
scored two fine late goals, but it wasn't enough. The match was spon
sored by David and June Lawson. Cononleg S po r ts ......4
Clitheroe L io n s ....... 4 THE Lions kept up their solid start to the season as they ended the league lead ers’ perfect start. The Lions threatened to
upset the form book after just five minutes when Michael Bank’s glorious t h r o u g h b a l l w a s
despatched into the top corner from 20 yards by ZakHolgate. Moments later, a" one-
two between Holgate and m a n - o f - t h e -m a t c h Christophe Pinard saw the latter fire home. And it was 3-0 when,

barded the Lions’ goal, producing some unbeliev able saves by Mashiter, however, after pulling another goal back, the reli able keeper fumbled a cross to allow the equaliser. Clitheroe’s next game is
away to bottom of the table Bradley a week on Saturday. Dog In n .................3 Great Harwood Roversl DOG Inn manager Simon Kerins hailed his side’s- comeback at Wilson's. The Whalley side were
a goal down when debu tant Tom Bartlett was harshly sent off following a challenge on halfway. But Dog improved con
siderably after the break, and a brace from Liam Porter and one from Jamie Enefer earned a fine win. Readstone Utd U8s . .10 Brierfield Celtic Red .0 JOE Noon scored a dou ble hat-trick as United started the season in style. Other scorers included
Harry Rushton, John Houston, adding to an own goal from Brierfield. Man-of-the-match was

to lose a 2-1 match against Pendle Forest Pumas, with Noone named man- of-the-match. Readslone Utd U9s.. .2 Padiham S a in ts ......2 IN an excellent game of football, two evenly- matched teams could not beseparated. Gareth Roberts scored forReadstone, with the
