A special day for the Hospice to celebrate in concert style
A CELEBRATION concert for the East Lancashire Hospice will be held at Black burn Cathedral next Saturday, October 6th, from 7-30 p.m. The date is very significant in Hospice’s
calendar as it is “World Palliative Care Day”, when hundreds of thousands of people globally will celebrate with “Voices for Hospices” celebration concerts. I t all started in 1988 when a London-
based Hospice held a concert to raise vital funds and also public awareness of its work. By 2005 that concert had grown to more than 500 in over 60 countries and raised more than £5m. to help support hospices. The East Lancashire Hospice event will
feature three choirs - The Hospice Singers, United Voice (northwest) and Salesbury Primary School Choir, plus soloists James
Loynes and Sarah Jones. A specially designed programme will cater for a mix ture of musical tastes, with songs from the shows, musicals and religious arrange ments. United Voices (North-West), with
James Loynes, recently performed to a packed Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall accompanied by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The Hospice Singers have now become
an established choir and once again will be performing at all of the hospice’s “Light up a Life” services this Christmas. Sales bury Primary school will bring a youthful touch and its members are looking forward to singing at the cathedral. Sarah Jones recently sang at the Celebration of Life concert at the Hospice and as agreed to appear by popular demand.
The Hospice, based on Park Lee Road
in Blackburn, cares for terminally ill patients and their families from Black burn, the Ribble Valley, Darwen and Hyn- dburn and depends on the generosity and support of people from the region, with £800,000 needed to be raised from volun tary sources this year alone. Head of fund raising a t the hospice, Harry Grayson, said: “This is the first time we have held this event and we are delighted to put on this celebratory concert, particularly oh World Palliative Care Day when the event links people all over the world. “I really hope that people will support
us on the night and look forward to seeing them at the cathedral.” For tickets, priced at £5 for adults and
£3 for under-12s, call the fund-raising team on 01254 660900.
