Ribble Valley Film Club 'signs off 'and 'signs up'
THE Ribble Film Club “signs off” its second year of weekly screenings at St Mary’s Cinema, Church Street, Clitheroe, this Sunday with free wine and nib bles and the showing of Clint Eastwood’s Oscar nominated: “Letters from Iwo Jima” at 7-30 p.m. The club then has its summer

Around half a dozen films will be screened from all round the world for chil- dren/young adults and par-

DELICIOUS homemade cakes are among the attrac tions at a charity coffee morn ing taking place in Clitheroe on Saturday. The event, taking place at
the Clitheroe Town Council Mayor’s Parlour, in Church Street, will raise money for the local branch of the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children. All the money raised will go
directly towards supporting 20 children from Belarus to visit Clitheroe in June this year. The annual visit has proven
long-term health benefits for children growing up in an area still affected by fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster more than 20 years ago. The coffee morning will run
from 10 a.m. to noon and admission is free.

INGREDIENTS: For the pastry dough: • 170g/6oz plain flour • 140g/5oz butter For the filling: • 1x425g/15oz large tin of peaches • 200g/7oz cranberries • 170g/6oz caster sugar • 170g'6oz unsalted butter • 1 whole egg
• 6 tbsp plain flour METHOD:
• In a bowl add the flour, butter and sugar, and rub together. Add the water a bit at a tim
e and m ake into
dough. Cover and leave to chill for approximately 30 minutes.
• On a lightly floured board roll out the dough and use it to line a 24cnV10 inch loose bottomed quiche or flan tin. Prick the base of the dough with a fork and leave to chill. tine the bn with grease proof paper fill with baking beans and bake in a preheated oven 190C/375F/Gas M
ark 5 for 12 to 15 minutes
Remove the paper and baking beans and allow to cool.
• For the filling, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and stir m the flour, almonds and m
ilk.
• Place the peach pieces and cranbemes on the bottom of the pastry case and spoon the filling over the top and spread with a spatula.
• Bake the tart in the oven tor 10 minutes at 190C then lower the oven temp to 160C for 55 to 60 minutes. Test with a sharp knife.
• Cool and spnnkle with icing sugar.
Cut into slices and served with whipped double cream.
