Major task in store for college students


i-c PUPILS at Stonyhurst College face • an enormous theatrical challenge this term when they will stage the school edition of West End block­ buster “Les Miserables”. Auditions for the musical are current­


ly taking place with pupils being asked to sing a verse from one of the songs in the show. I t will be performed entirely by the


students over three nights, on November 28th and 29th and December 1st, all at 7-30 p.m. in the Academy Room. The annual musical is always popular


and is expected to play to packed hous­ es.

21 years, to huge popular acclaim. Based op Victor Hugo’s classic story


of unjust treatment of the poor and political agitation in 19th Century France, it opened at the Barbican The­ atre, London, in October 1985. Two years later the American version


opened at the Broadway Theatre. Since then, Les Miserables, by Alain


Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer has travelled the globe and won many major awards, including eight Tony awards, including Best Musical.
