These top acts are cream of the crop

THE funniest-ever One Night Stand comedy line-up comes to Clitheroe on Saturday for the St Mary’s Centre’s biggest

show yet. Malawian comic Daliso

Chaponda visits the Ribble Val ley via South Africa and Canada to top a bill featuring a Jongleurs regular, a City Life comedian of the year and the man who literal ly took the roof off the venue last month. Daliso is getting rave reviews

for his stand-up routines in major clubs such as the Comedy Store, the Frog and Bucket and Rawhide. His high-energy performances

and amazingly funny stories have placed him at the forefront of the newer acts on the scene. Dominic Woodward is another

One Night Stand favourite who has graced the club’s previous venues in Preston and Rawten- stall. Andy Watson, winner of the

City Life comedian of the year gong (previously won by Peter Kay, Caroline Aherne and Dave Spikey), visits St Mary’s having

completed several weeks at the Edinburgh Festival. And to top the evening off, last

month’s headliner, Greg Cook is returning as compere. Mr Nick Lakin, events organ

iser at St Mary’s, said: “This is an amazing line-up for just £5. You would easily pay £10 or £15 in some of the city centre clubs, but the value-for-laughs at St Mary’s is tremendous. “Normally there’s one act that

stands out, but I’m really looking forward to seeing them all. “Last month we had 100 peo

ple in to see Greg Cook rip the place apart, so we’re delighted that he’s coming back to compere the night as a one-off. “The first One Night Stand at

St Mary’s attracted a whole new crowd to the venue. We had peo ple in their late teens through to their nineties - and all enjoyed the night immensely.” The doors open at 7 p.m. and

there’s a fully licensed bar selling a wide range of drinks, including locally produced “real ale”. Tickets are just £5 in advance

from the St Mary's Centre or £7 on the door on the night.
