Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, Thursday, November 30th, 2006 15 Festive fairtrade event was a super success

A FAIRTRADE Christmas Event at St James' Church, Clitheroe, proved a popular attraction. Unfortunately, due to a production error, a small

article promoting the event, held on Saturday, November 11th, appeared a week late in the Clitheroe Advertiser, on November 16th. Our apologies go to anyone who

at village school DIETS were left at home when 78 ladies went along to Chatbum CE School hall to sample the delights of chocolate. Chocolate, milk, plain and white was the

theme of a “Choccy Night” organised by Nicola Bamber, lay worker at Chatburn Methodist Church, Jill Farthing and Vara Athimoolam to bring together the two churches in the village and help create a community spirit. The chocolate night included tastings,

quizzes and showing extracts from the beautiful film “Chocolat” staring Juliette Binoche and Judy Dench. The evening, which raised £60 after

expenses, was enjoyed by all and each lady received a small gift to take home. Our pictures shows Susan White, Jill

Farthing, Pat Crook, Sheila Cochrane, Nicola Bamber, Di Buttle, Anne Higham and Vara Athimoolam all enjojdng tasting a chocolate fondu. (T201106/3)

Man assaulted partner’s ex

A CLITHEROE man who deliberate ly kept out of arguments between his new partner and her ex-husband even tually felt he had to speak out. Blackburn magistrates heard that words

led to physical confrontation and an assault on the ex-husband by Russell Bin der. But defence solicitor Mr Andrew Church-Taylor said the confrontation had been very much two-sided and either or both men could have been charged. Binder (36), of Peel Street, pleaded

guilty to assaulting Jason Taylor. He was given a conditional discharge for nine months and ordered to pay £50 compensa tion and £60 costs. Mr Neil White (prosecuting) said Binder

had grabbed the other man by the neck and pushed him against a wall. He was shouting abuse and grabbed him again, this time pushing him to the floor where he stamped on his head. Mr Church-Taylor (defending) said

there were two sides to every story and this was no exception. • He said that since Binder’s partner, San

dra, had split from Mr Taylor there had been ongoing problems. Mr Taylor had been made subject to a

restraining order at one time and because of the difficulties there was a period when he had to collect his daughter from his estranged wife outside the police station. “My client did not get involved through

out all this,” said Mr Church-Taylor. “On the night of this incident Mr Taylor made some comments which led my client to decide the time had come when he had to say something. “What he said he stands by, but it led to

some pushing and shoving, but no stamp ing on heads or anything like that,” said Mr Church-Taylor. “They went their separate ways and as far as my client was concerned that was the
