A CHANCE to win a hamper full of prize winning puddings helped to boost takings at a charity coffee morning in Clitheroe. Multi-award-winning manufacturer

Farmhouse Fare staged the event, raising more than £1,000 fo Macmillan Cancer Support. The hamper of heavenly puds was just one attraction, with visitors to the Salthill site enjoying delicious home made scones and biscuits with their coffee and getting a sneak glimpse behind the scenes. Many were surprised to see that, despite the company’s phenomenal growth, everything is still hand-made the

traditional way - one of the secret’s of Farmhouse Fare’s success. The following day saw the official open

ing of Farmhouse Fare’s newly extended production facility, including i ts new Product Deveopment Suite. I t was per formed by Edwin Booth, chairman of Booth’s supermarkets, which was the first big chain to stock Farmhouse Fare prod ucts in line with its policy of promoting local produce. Helping hand for hospice

A LOCAL charity which relies on dona tions has been given a helping hand by the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and its members from across the region. A total of £1,645 was collected for the

East Lancashire Hospice after a raffle and auction held at the chamber’s annual pres ident’s dinner. Chamber president Tony Raynor hand

ed over a cheque to the hospice’s head of fund-raising, Harry Grayson, before tak ing a tour of the specialist palliative care unit in Blackburn. Tony said: “I was greatly impressed by

the standard of care and facilities at the East Lancashire Hospice, but shocked

that maintaining that service takes almost £700,000 a year, which relies purely on fund-raising. “Everyone who attended the dinner

gave generously to the cause and we are delighted with the figure raised.” Dinner guests were asked to put their

donations in envelopes placed on each table and not one contribution was less

than £5. A signed picture of Concorde was auc

tioned off and the winning guest raised the bid against himself to collect the prize! Mr Grayson said: “Donations such as

this are invaluable to the hospice and we thank the chamber for its kind support.”
