30th birthday boost

A GENEROUS Clitheroe woman used her 30th birthday celebrations to raise money for charity. Mrs Judith Sweeney, pictured, held

a party at the Catholic Social Club, Lowergate, Clitheroe, over the week end to mark the special day, but requested donations in lieu of pres ents to boost funds for the Children In Need appeal. Mrs Sweeney, who lives with her

husband Paul, and their 14-month- old son, Hayden, in Grafton Street, raised £437.76 in total, (s)

NURSERY children at Edisford School, in Clitheroe, had great fun designing and mak ing their own Pudsey Bear ears and then

paid 50p to wear them for Children In Need day.

a few turn heads! PUPILS and staff at Brookside Primary School in Clitheroe made donations to Children In Need to come to school in

their pyjamas and bring in their favourite Teddy. The deputy head, Mrs Beverley Allan,

and Year 1 teacher Miss Sophie Haworth had to attend a course in the afternoon at Clayton Park, Clasdon-le-Moors. They were sponsored by the rest of the

staff to continue wearing their pyjamas and fluffy slippers to attend the course! They of course travelled in their pyjamas,

causing some drivers to take a second look! The School Council organised the day

and so far more than £300 has been raised for Children In Need.

■ Tots are Pudseys for the day

IT was the girls who put the “butch” in butchers while the boys were anything but beefy at Harrison and Kerr, in Clitheroe. Staff at the busy King Street butchers

and cooked meats shop had a “cross-dress ing day” for Children in Need, some clearly enjoying it a little too much! Donations from customers throughout the day amounted to almost £165.

Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, Thursday, November 23rd, 2006 11 deep for its Children In Need 1k02| Putting the ‘butch’ in butchers! “We had a lot of fun and, thanks to the

customers, raised some cash for Children in Need and that’s what it’s all about,” said Brian “Bryony” Hodges. Apparently it took three strong men - or

maybe women - to wrestle the wig off Roger “Rogina” Hope at the end of the day. Ah well, hair today... gone tomorrow. (BI7II06/6)

Bad hair, but good cause

A BAD hair day at a Clitheroe super market helped raise cash for Chil dren In Need. Customers call

ing into Booths on Friday found staff sport ing curlers, wigs, gel and spikes in aid of the annu al fund-raiser. Together with

contributions from shoppers, the store made a hair-raising £786. Two days previ

ously Booths staff had taken part in th e annual Chil dren In Need pub quiz. Held at the Cas

tle Pub, the event made £127 for the good cause. Event coordina

to r Linda Baron thanked staff at th e Clitheroe hostelry for host ing the fund-raiser and providing a buffet supper. Our photograph
