ised to take part in the half-marathon to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, at the funeral of his father Jim Horrocks, who died from the disease on Christmas Day aged just 58 As a result, Mr Horrocks, who has his own busi
ness “Branches Design” in Clitheroe and has never competed in a race previously, has so far raised more than £600 for the charity. A keen mountain biker, Mr Horrocks, despite
injury, finished the race in just over three hours to the delight of his wife, Nicola, and mother Lesley.
Mr Horrock’s aunt, Susie Pomeroy, also joined in the celebrations having travelled from Devon to Tyneside to watch her nephew. Mrs Horrocks said: “I’m just so proud of him
as he’s never done anything like this before. I’m so pleased.I promised myself that I wouldn’t cry and my sister said the same, but when we finally met up with him, I ran up, took a deep breath and told him his dad was up there watching him.” Mr Horrocks sen. was a retired senior lecturer
for the health faculty at the University of Central Lancashire and is remembered by his family as “a man in the million”. Not only did he help nurse his wife back to health after she had a liver transplant operation in the ’90s, he also studied for and later gained an MA in Community Care and Learning Disability at Keele University.
