incorporate all work done by students in the last year in respect of a r t.

fashion, embroidery and textile design. A further exhibition

FOUR Kibble VaUey cho risters will be hitting the high notes on Saturday night. The quartet are all

members of Blackburn Cathedral Young People’s Choir who will be singing at Clitheroe Parish Church. I t has already been a

busy year for the choir, which includes the Valley quartet of Clare Holgate (16), of Billington, Josh Abbot (16), of Langho, Sarah Chew (15), of Bar- row and Jonathan Turner (19), of Longridge. In January they sang Evensong live from Black- bum Cathedral for Radio Three and then performed with the Renaissance Singers in Preston for the BBC’s “Songs of. Praise” programme. The choir also provided musical enter

tainment for American Secretary of State Con- doleezza Rice, who they later met during her visit to East Lancashire. As well as rehearsing for

Saturday’s concert in Clitheroe, the choir is also getting ready for the Prince’s Trust Concert with Aled Jones on June 21st, which will be in the presence of HRH Princess Alexandra. 9 Tickets for Saturday’s

concert, which will include music by Schubert, Bach, and Purcell, are available from St Mary’s Church or Clitheroe Music in Moor Lane and cost £8 (£6 con cessions and under 15s free). The concert will start at 7-30 p.m. Pictured from the left

A cracking piece of theatre!

“She Stoops To Concert”; the Royal Exchange The atre, Manchesten until July 1st.

ROLLICKING, roistering, rattling good fun is Braham Murray’s pro duction of Oliver Goldsmith’s classic comedy, “She Stoops to Conquer”. He is well served by a superb cast, whose comic antics and hilarious confusions have the audience roaring with laughter. Polly Hemmingway and Desmond Barrit are excellent as Mr and Mrs Hardcastle, she longing for more excitement, he happy to live

quietly in his old-fashioned house in the country.

Celyn Jones is a wonderful, exu

berant Tony Lumpkin, the spoilt son of Mrs Haixicastle, whose delight is in drinking, chasing the local bar maid, tormenting his mother and playing tricks. It is he who sets up the plot by convincing the young men from London, Marlow (Milo Twomey) and Hastings (Jack Tarl- ton) that Hardcastle Hall is an inn. Marlow is on his way to court the

daughter of a friend of his father (Gordon Longford-Rowe), Kate Hardcastle (Ahson Pargeter), while

Hastings wants to see the girl h( loves, Constance Neville (Eler Rhys), who is the ward of Mrs Hard castle. Thus we are treated tc delightful misconceptions, particu larly from Hardcastle, who is out raged at being treated like a land lord. Polly Hemingway makes the mosi

of all the laughable moments as hei son drives her distracted ^ d every thing conspires against her. The ser vants and yokels are all good too This is an evening of traditional farcf played brilliantly. PIPPAMUNBC

; With Maurizio and Cinzia Bocchi, of La Locanda Ristorante Italiano, Gisburn.

R E S T A U R A T E U R Cinzia Bocchi' a t La Locanda Ristorante Ital iano and Wine Bar in Gisburn, has supplied a recipe which is just the kind of thing cooked up a t homes across Lom bardy in northern Italy where Cipzia and hus band, Maurizio, pictured, come from. “I t ’s a region with a

great culinary heritage,” says chef Maurizio, “and Pasta Rostida is a very traditional dish which is typical of the kind of meal people will be cook ing up over this national holiday.” Although pasta and

potato is an unusual com bination they are a great basis for the distinct flavours of cheese and pancetta.'The recipe con- , ventionally uses a cheese called grana padano, but this can be difficult to source outside Italy and so parmigiano is a good sub s titu te , but if you want a totally authentic experience grana padano cheese can be purchased from La Locanda.
