A family affair at anniversary day

s Tots enjoy a taste of Spain

WHALLEY PRE-SCHOOL came alive to the sounds of castanets and flamenco dance music when toddlers celebrated

Spanish week. ' Some of the youngsters donned authen tic Spanish dresses, while the others came dressed in the colours of the Spanish flag. The event was held to celebrate the end

of a series of sessions held at the pre school, where children have been gaining an insight into different languages and cultures of popular holiday destinations

only had fun by singing and dancing, they also managed to practice counting and learn basic Spanish words. Our picture shows: back row, Isabelle

Take lime out for a little reflection. If you have over reacted or been too assertive and demanding over recent days you might want to backtrack and make amends. Sometimes it is important to compromise, I imow that can be difficult in the current situation but it v/ill help matters resolve themselves. Later this week you'll find your adaptability and flexibility will help keep plans on track and bring you the helpful support and backing you need to keep all your balls in the air.

country at Under-19 and A-team level scor ing over 4,000 runs in first-class cricket in Sri Lanka, is Whalley Cricket Club’s pro fessional for this year. The talented cricketer will continue to

coach hundreds of promising young sports men and women over the summer term, thanks to funding obtained via Lords - the home of cricket. A spokesman for the club said: “The

money and cricket coaching scheme is thanks to the hard work of Dr David West- wood, chairman of Whalley Cricket Club. “It is hoped that some friendly cricket

matches will be arranged against the local Whalley Juniors side and that the project will be extended next season with a larger amount of schools being available for par ticipation.”

Have a wacky walk

RESIDENTS in Whalley are being encouraged to get “wacky” this weekend and put their best feet forward for a worthy cause. A sponsored “Wacky Walk” will take place on Sunday to raise funds to improve play facilities for

youngsters in the village. The move follows a campaign launched earlier

this year by members of the Whalley Playground Action Group to gain additional play facilities at the village’s neglected Proctor’s Field play area. Campaigners claim there is a lack of up-to-date

fun equipment at the park and joined forces to breathe new life into the community facility. Member and Whalley resident Mrs Angela Cun-

liffe is hoping that supporters will turn out in force and raise money towards the much-needed equip ment. The walk will take place at 3 p.m., on Sunday, at

the Spring Wood P-icnic Site. Sponsor forms can be obtained from the Spar shop in Whalley. The event will be rounded off \vith a picnic and a prize will be awarded to the wackiest walker!

ANGRY staff and patients at Clitheroe Community Hospital have hit-out at heartless vandals for destroying their SheepFest

display. Patients spent three months

designing five sheep for the Lambeth Walk display, situat ed nicely outside the hospital on the Chatbum Road site, for this year’s SheepFest event - only for the sheep to be stolen and destroyed by callous thieves. Mrs Ann Philip, therapy assistant at the hospital, was

She was later informed that one of the sheep had been abandoned near the McDonald’s roundabout on the A59 and one near Ribbles- dale High School Technology College, Clitheroe; She is furi ous with the actions of the offenders. A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD Clitheroe girl was airlifted to hospital after she fell off her horse while riding in Read. The incident happened on

AN 86-year-old Clitheroe woman developed bronchopneumonia after a fall at her home in which she suffered a broken hip. An inquest heard that Mrs Ellen

Street, said she heard a bang against the front sitting room door about 6-15 p.m. on March 15th and knew immedi ately her mother had fallen. The cause of death was given as

bronchopneumonia because of immo bility following a fractured neck of the femur. Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a natural causes verdict.
