Lars Von Triers second part of an American trilogy and the follow up to the magnificent “Dogville”. I t continues the sto ry of Grace, previously played by Nicole Kid man but now portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard. In Manderlay, Grace finds her
self a t tem p t in g to l ib e ra te a ■group of black workers on an iso la ted co tto n p la n ta t io n in the American south. Cut off from the world aro u n d th em , tim e has stood still and, incredibly, they have no idea th a t s lav e ry has been abolished 70 year earlier. Edgy and controversial. Von
Trier’s film is shot in his trade mark minimalist fashion and asks some tough questions th a t most people dare not confront. Willem Dafoe, Danny Glover and Lauren Bacall are among the largely less er-known, but powerful cast.
