TICKETS are selling fast for a summer ball in West Bradford, which will raise money to help improve education facili ties in Africa. Organised by Billington resident Jamie

Whitwell (32) and his girlfriend, Joanne Cooper (32), of Cheshire, the black tie event will be held at Eaves Hall on Fri day, August 18th, in aid of Ripple Africa. Featuring Beatles tribute band the

Mersey Beatles direct from the Cavern, all proceeds from th e event will go towards building a new secondary school and classroom block to accommodate 200 students in Malawi, East Africa. Former Clitheroe Royal Grammar

School pupil Jamie and solicitor Joanne explained how coming from a privileged background had made them want to give

something back. In addition to the hotly anticipated live music act, the event also has some excellent prizes up for grabs in the casino and raffle with donations pro vided from high street retailers HMV and Tesco as well as local traders Byrne’s wine shop, Philip Michael Hair Studio and many more. Hotel stays in great venues will also be

on offer along with signed memorabilia to cover a wide range of interests. Sponsored by Johnson Matthey Cata

lys ts where Jamie works as a project manager, it matches the company’s strat egy of working towards a sustainable future. Tickets cost £34.50 and for further

Captain Jack’s problems throw a huge wrench into the wed ding plans of the blissful Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightly), who quickly find themselves thrust into Jack’s misadven tures. The film is packed with new villains, special effects and scenery, which is more spectacular than ever.

A must for walkers

FOR anyone tempted to discover more of the area around Chipping, a new walk book is a must. Written by residents

Graham and 'Trish Wilkin son on behalf of the parish council, proceeds from the sales are going to the North West Air Ambu lance. The book: “10 Circular

Walks Around Chipping,” contains routes devised by the authors after closely studying the public rights of way on the Ordnance Survey maps for the area. With a foreword by per

sonality and comedian Jim Bowen, the book also incorporates “The Chip ping Challenge,” an eight- mile circular walk around Chipping featuring excel lent views and numerous possibilities of stops for refreshments.

Each of the 10 walks

ranging from relatively easy two miles to more challenging eight mile routes, carries a list of diffi culties which may be encountered,

some

depending on weather, oth ers on livestock. And, unusually the

authors have also asked those undertaking the routes to leave messages at the village post office if the routes have been varied or if obstacles not listed have been encountered. Each route carries a

clear map and extremely easy to follow directions with local points of inter est interspersed. The books are available

from Clitheroe Tourist Information Centre and from Chipping Post Office priced £4.50.
