Aboard the health bus
A BUS bringing news and seeking views on the future of local healthcare will be in the Ribble Valley today and tomorrow. A far reaching public consultation is now
under way on the future if health services in East Lancashire. The consultation docu ment, “Meeting Patients’ Needs”, was pub lished earlier this year by the region’s Pri mary Care Trusts and the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trusts. I t sets out various options for change and explains why change is needed. Public consultation began on March 21st
and ends on July 10th, with various events taking p l^ e to raise awareness and gather people’s views. The latest is an Information Bus, which will visit locations across East Lancashire in the coming weeks. Today the bus will be at Gisbum Auction
Mart from 9-30 a.m. to 12-30 p.m. and tomorrow it will be at Booths, in Clitheroe, from 9 a.m. to noon Everyone is encouraged to express their
views on the proposals and the Information Bik is one way in which they can do that by going along and completing a brief ques tionnaire. Visitors can also raise any queries or questions that they may have with the staff on board the bus. Val Bertenshaw, Project Manager for the
Climeal Services Review said: “The views of the public really do matter and will help to shape the future of local health services.” The information bus will be at the com
munity centre next to St Leonard’s Church, Langho, next Thursday, June 8th, from 2 to 5_p.m. To learn more about the consulta tion, people can also visit the website (
www.eastlancs.nhs.uk) or call the public • consultation hotline on 01254 293855. •

for a new vehicle. Without reliable “wheels” to deliver the hot meals to around 25 recip ients each week day, the greatly appreciated service would be in jeopardy. Now, thanks to a team of generous bene-
factors, its future is secure, marked by the handover of a replacement. The Nissan Micra was presented to the Meals-on- Wheels team at Clitheroe Hospital, where the two-course hot meals are cooked and packed. A team of 45 WRVS volunteers, working on a rota, then deliver them to recipients around the area, combining the visit with a quick check to see that all is well. None of this would be possible without
the replacement car, bought with donations from Clitheroe Round Table, Clitheroe Lions, the Rotary Clubs of Clitheroe and Ribblesdale, Dugdales Nutrition and Rib ble Valley Borough Council. Representatives of those organisations,
together with the WRVS volunteers, were invited to the hospital for the official han dover. Special thanks also go to Mr Paul Rawson, of M&P Signs, who supplied
graphics for the new vehicle free of charge. New recruits to the Meals-on-Wheels
team, men or women, are always welcome and further details are available by ring ing the WRVS office on 01200 442513 or Mrs Sadie Baker on 01200 425863.

Welly walk boosts play area fund
YOUNGSTERS were right to dress for wet weather for a sponsored “welly walk” start ing from Clitheroe’s Brungerley Park. Organised by Ribblesdale Nursery
School and the Children’s Centre, the heav ens opened during the walk, which it is believed raised approximately £250 towards developing the outdoor play area at the nursery. Around 50 people took part in the event,
which was open to all and co-ordinated by Kath Mitchell, Ribble Valley Borough Council’s walking project co-ordinator. She incorporated a trail with activities for both younger and older children to complete and the walk finished with a picnic. It is hoped further walks will be planned
for the school holidays. Our picture shows the welly walk about to get under way. (D060506/3b)
