Dr Ron’s real revelations!

C L IT H E R O E Probus Club's latest talk with the forbidding title “The Work of an Environmental Con sultant in the Modern World” proved a real reve lation!

Chatburn resident D r

Ron Freethy, pictured, tel evision and radio broad caster on natural science, biologist and author of many books, soon dispelled any forebodings with his talk proving lively, very informative, humorous and occasionally despairing of the lack of common sense displayed by the world’s politicians. He dealt with, principal

Paddlers have a great time

A R O U N D 40 members, family and friends attended the first of this year’s “Swallows and Amazons” trips to Lake Coniston, run by Clitheroe Canoe Club. The weather was not par

ticularly kind, but everyone was well kitted-out, kept warm and had a thorough ly good time. The paddlers set off from

the jetty in a mixture of open canoes, kayaks and

duos, paddling the short distance to Peel Island. There followed the usual mix of paddling games and island-based games, includ ing a treasure hunt, and the ever-favourite jumping off rocks! Thanks go to Andrew

Coultherd for organising the trip and Simon Timewell for towing the trailer. Members are already looking forward to

doing it all again in Sep tember!
