HOL IDAY PROGRAMME 2005
So, what are you going to do with the children? I
IT’S nearly holiday time again, and parents all over the Ribble Valley face the prospect of keeping children entertained over their long summer break. But fear not, there are hun
dreds of things to do both in the local area and further afield. Here are a few suggestions. • On weekdays, most local
leisure centres hold relatively cheap sports workshops for older chilien, providing the chance to , try a range of different games and disciplines, while also keep ing fit and healthy.. • Those lucky enough to have
time to spend with their children can fill the time with inexpensive ways to have a fun day out in the local area. With beautiful coun tryside all around and lots of park land, all that is needed for a great day is a nice day, a picnic, a blanket and a bat and b ^ . • There are all sorts of other..
activities to do in the country side, too, with walks, guided tours of caves, nature trails and visitor centres. • This is also the time of year
for agricultural shows, fairs and all manner of community events. The agricultural shows are not just about sheep and cows and vegetables any more - there are lots of things to do on theshowfields.
, • On the inevitable rainy
days, the great indoors beckon. How about a trip to the cinema or the bowling alley? • Also available with an
excursion just a little further afield, there are theme parks, zoos, seaside resorts and other fun attractions in the North- West. With a little bit of imagina
tion, the 2005 break could mean a sizzling summer packed with a huge range of activities that . keep everyone happy.

Delighted youngsters say: we are the champions!
TRIUMPHANT Ribble Valley youngsters have returned from the Lancashire Youth Games with three silver medals. Now council bosses hope their success will give local youth
sport a boost. More than 2,000 youngsters
from across Lancashire took part in the games, held in Lan-
. caster and Morecambe. Ribble Valley fielded 12 teams
that returned with silver medals in the triathlon, girls’ cricket and athletics. Ribble Valley Borough Coun cil’s sports development officer.
Tom Bamber, said: “Ribble Val ley’s representation at the games was the culmination of months of hard work by local coaches and schools, with more than 500 children taking part in the selection process. “It is hoped our success at the
event will raise the profile of developing sports, such as girls’ cricket and tag rugby, encourag ing more children to take part. “I would like to thank every
one, particularly the youngsters, who helped make this Ribble Valley’s most successful games
ever.”
