PETER Jones is the new British record holder for the 35-39 years 100m backstroke. The Clitheroe sivimmer, who
is coached by Jonathan Preston, received official confirmation from the Amateur Swimming Association that he had broken the 13-year record in a time of 1.01.94. This achievement was the
highlight of a successful week end for Clitheroe Masters, who plundered 15 golds, six silvers and six bronze medals a t the Gateshead and Whickham Open Meet. In all, Peter collected three
backstroke gold medals. ■ Also taking a ha t- trick of golds were Achille Ramambason and Ray Keefe, whose freestyle swims dominated their respec tive 30 to 34 and 65 to 69 age groups. Tracy Barnes and Laura
