Women show business acumen

ENTERPRISING business women from across the Ribble Valley showcased their talents at an exhibition in Clitheroe. Around 20 female entrepreneurs used

the event at the United Reformed Church to celebrate the success of their businesses, while at the same time raising their profile and making new contacts in the business world. Using an innovative marketing ploy, the

women persuaded an eager team of teenagers to distribute flyers and balloons designed by Clitheroe-based self-employed illustrator Joy Cockle around the town on behalf of the Shop with Her - Home EnteRprise exhibition. This managed to pull in the crowds throughout the day. Twiston-based Angela Moyle, who

imports terracotta pottery through her business Terra Firma UK, explained: More and more women are starting their

She added that as well as being an addi

Owl’s well that ends well!

A CLITHEROE bird lover says local people have restored her faith in human nature after they returned her missing rare owl. As the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times

reported last week, Mrs Wendy Smith, of Parkside, Clitheroe, who breeds Italian owls for a hobby, was distraught when a magpie attacked one of a breeding pair. She last saw the distinctive tiny six-

month-old owl, called Archie, falling into Brungerley Park, which runs next to her house. Mrs Smith was particularly worried

because owls like Archie are extremely vul nerable, being unable to rear their own chicks and having to be fostered. She also wanted Archie’s safe return to

Hettie, the owl he is paired with, who.is also six months old and was upset by itself. The good news she had been praying for came in the form of a phone call from wid

home and doing fine.” She added: “I t ’s always really upsetting

when you hear all the bad things in the press about people being rotten with ani mals, but when you actually meet some body like that (Mrs Nadin), it gives you faith that there are still some people left who have consideration.”, Mrs Smith also expressed her thanks to

the couple who had originally found Archie.

» ' '

ower Mrs Eileen Nadin, of Faraday Avenue, Clitheroe, who had been nursing Archie back to health. Another Clitheroe couple had taken

Archie to Mrs Nadin after finding the injured owl in Brungerley Park. Well- known in the area for treating sick birds, Mrs Nadin phoned Mrs Smith on reading the article in the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times. Mrs Smith commented: “Archie is now
