CLITHEROE Cricket Club Under 11s are pic tured after finishing the Ribblesdale League season unbeaten, and also winners of the Arthur Shaw Shield. Having achieved the

league and cup double, they went fonvard into the LCB Cup and finished run ners-up to a very good Haslingden side in the final.

Double success for Ciitheroe cricketers

Team awards were as

follows: Tim Le Breton (batting), Chris Bowness (bowling), Liam Nuttall (all-round performance), Ross Dent (fielding). The team line-up as fol

lows: Back, Ross Dent, Robin Kennerley, Liam Nuttall, Chris Parkinson. Front, James Banks,

Chris Bowness, Tim LeBreton, Matt Ash worth. (s)

Ciitheroe go clear at the top

Clilheroe ...................... 7 Soulhporl...................... 0 CLITHEROE sit two points clear at the top of the league after a convinc ing win over Southport. After a disappointing

performance the previous weekend, the team wanted to make sure they were in top of their game, and they were as they raced into an early lead. Although they expected

a hard game, Ciitheroe were 2-0 up after only two minutes thanks to a great goal from Anna Griffiths and a penalty converted by Rachel Walmsley after she had been brought down in the area. Ciitheroe continued to

outplay Southport throughout the half, and stand in goalkeeper Pauline Moorby, normally a left winger, did not have a save to make in the halt

and only touched the ball oncel By half-time Ciitheroe

were 6-0 up after Griffiths and Walmsley scored again,'and Ashley also scored. In the second half

Southport played better and were determined not to concede as many goals and managed to keep Ciitheroe out until Walm sley got her hat-trick goal with 10 minutes to go. This was a convincing

and controlled perto- mance, to put the locals on top. They have not conceded

a goal yet and have scored 16 in their first three games. The match ball was

sponsored by Anderton Bosonnet Estate Agents. Blackpool l i l t s .............1 Clilheroe 2 n d s ............. 1 CLITHEROE travelled to

Blackpool's Stanley Park determined to get some thing out of the game fol lowing two defeats. Ciitheroe played more as

a team and managed to match a strong Blackpool outfit. Clitheroe's goal came

from captain Anita from a well-worked short corner. This goal gave Ciitheroe

a well-deserved point and lifted them off the bottom of the league. They are at home on

Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. at the Ribblesdale Astro turf. Supporters are welcome

to come along and cheer on the new team. Anyone interested in

joining the cub or just coming along to try the game out for the first time should ring Hannah .Laverty (07855337708).

Badminton club’s solid start to the season

BOTH Ciitheroe teams made a good start to their Mid-Lancashire Bad minton League campaigns. The A team made their first

appearance in the Third Division and achieved maximum points against newly-promoted Multipart B. The team of Michael Olstowski,

Stephen Pym, Tony Bush, Louise Burrill, Mary Brass and Christine Smitten lost just one of their IS games played on the night to run out 17-1 winners. The team then travelled to Pre

ston to play Highfield A. And once again the team of

Stephen Pym, Pete Woods, Tony Bush, Jane Macewan, Mary Brass

and Chantelle More kept up their impressive form to run out clear 14-4 winners against one of the fancied sides for promotion. Not to be outdone, Ciitheroe B

made a similarly impressive start to their campaign in the Fifth Division as they lost just three games at Bamber Bridge. The team of Mark Perry, Chris

Tomlinson, Richard Schmidt, Carol Oistowski, Shelia Perry and Selina Townsend proved altogether too strong for their opponents, relegated from the Fourth Division last season. Meanwhile, the club’s Blackburn

League campaign kicked off on Tuesday, with Ciitheroe A taking on

their fierce rivals Ciitheroe B in a First Division clash at Roefield. On a night when tension was high,

it was a credit to the players that the matches produced a high level of quality and competitiveness. And despite many close encoun

ters, Ciitheroe A ran out 15-1 win ners on the night with the B team pairing of Tony Bush and David Mackenzie producing the result of the night to ensure that the second string can head into the season with a good deal of confidence. Practice nights will continue at

Moorland School on a Thursday night throughout the season between 8 and 10 p.m.
