hit baek to book place in last four

Rolls-Royce ........... 3 Waddinglon ... .. ... 4

DESPITE the absence of key players, Waddington booked a place in the Devonshire Carpets Craven League Division Cup semi-final at the weekend. But they had to battle

back from a two-goal deficit before finally get ting the better of Rolls- Royce. . The Barnoldswick side

caught Waddington cold and scored twice in the first 10 minutes. Waddington, through

Robert Lloyd and Peter Fletcher, carved out some solid openings before Peter Dugdale eventually got them on their way on the stroke of half-time. Waddington started the second period brightly and

drew level and man-of-the- match Fletcher was fouled in the area and Paul Tier ney converted from the spot. Midway through the

half Tierney scored again to put Waddington into the lead, but Rolls made changes, came back into the match and levelled the scores. The game looked to be

heading towards extra- time until leading scorer Lloyd beat the off-side trap to fire the winner past the advancing keeper. Waddington, who are

without a weekend game, would like to thank Mor timers of Clitheroe for sponsoring the matchball. All players are ask to

attend training on Tues day night at 7 p.m. at Roe- field.

Blue ADAM GARDNER by Adrian Capstick

AFTER Tuesday night's embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Mossley in the UniBond League Challenge Cup, Clitheroe manager Lee Sculpher was understandably downhearted. He said: “I t doesn't happen on many occa

sions, but we disappeared and that's disap pointing. All credit to Mossley, they took their opportunities, and after they got the second goal they were boosted, while it seemed to shatter us. “We've got to be prepared to work hard,

you can't hide - you can't disappear and you need big hearts.

“To concede like we did was not like us -

you can look at certain things in the game like two minutes before their second goal we should have equalised, and there should have been a free kick in the build up to that goal as the left winger elbowed me in the face. “But there was no excuse for the 15 min

utes after that as we just collapsed, and all said and done, that's not good enough for Clitheroe Football Club. “Even at 2-0 down you've got to

stand up and be counted, and not just fall like a pack of cards.” The opening half had looked

e r o m t> n ic E

promising, and if a Gary Jackson effort had gone in just before the onslaught, it could have all been different.

But the Clitheroe player-manag

er couldn't emphasise enough the importance of shooting on sight: “I thought we were the better side in the first half, we had opportuni ties to score but we didn't take them. “ We got into the positions but

didn't pull the trigger, and we've only got ourselves to blame. “I'll never criticise anyone for

having a shot on goal.” The Blues can be thankful this

wasn't a league game, as they look to Saturday's home game against Spalding to get back on track. The South Lincolnshire side

have won two and lost four of their last six games and lie just below Clitheroe in the table, so Sculpher is hoping that his side will regain their composure: “We've got to be up for the fight and bounce back, and I'm sure we'll get the right reaction at Shawbridge. “We've got to get over Tuesday's

defeat, continue to make chances and, most'importantly, find the back of the net.” He added: “Cup competitions

aren't my priority. Getting a num ber of points in the league is vital, as what we don't want come Jan uary, February is to be stuck down

in the bottom five with a possible relegation battle on our hands.” Next Tuesday Clitheroe face a

tough test a t Conference North opponents Barrow in the LFA Marsden Trophy. Having been knocked out of the

FA Cup, the FA Trophy and the UniBond League Challenge Cup already, Sculpher is gradually get ting used to the new cup system. “We've got two cups left to play

in, a difficult trip to Barrow, and then whoever we draw in the Pres ident's Cup, so we haven't as many games as this club is used to at this time of the season.” He added: “Barrow are two

leagues above us so it's going to be a very difficult game. “We may only get four chances

throughout the game, and if we're going to beat them, then we'll probably have to score two or three of them.” Players who will hopefully

unavailable, so Danny Woodhead will keep goal again. .

Jenna’s pride as dream comes true after trial

by Adrian Capstick

PROUD Jenna Wood cock (pictured) has achieved her dream of making the England Under 17s netball

squad. Over the last five years

the 15-year-old Ribble Val ley Netball Club member has represented both Lan cashire Under 14s and Under 16s, and has played in the National quarter-finals three times in three years with the Clitheroe-based club. So it comes as little sur

e j

prise that Jenna's coach, ex-England National net- ball player Anna- Newell, has high expectations for the local youngster, who has been named in the long squad.' She said: “I am confi-

Under 17s FENA squad in March. ‘•‘This is a huge compli

ment for a player of her age, and she feels a great sense of pride to be an England ifnder 17 squad member.” Jenna made the grade by

in the South West city, she will then learn whether or not she has made the 14- girl final FENA squad. Jenna is also part of the

Manchester High Perfor mance Group, where she trains with other England players.
